Carbon In SPS tank

Not carbon dosing but just regular carbon in a bag or a sheet pad or something....do you guys run it if so how often and what brand?

I used to always run carbon in my nano tank but for what ever reason just got away from it. I have read that it removes trace elements, but thought of starting to run it.

I have always ran BRS ROX Carbon 24/7 on my system with great results. If you keep up on your regular water changes, you have no need to worry about trace elements being removed.

I normally always run carbon in my reactor but I have out bio pellets in it. I need more carbon but will run it in the sump in a bag.

I run ESV carbon and love it. Run about 2 cups in a vertex uf 15 reactor 24/7 and replace it monthly. This is on a 75 gallon tank
Definitely run it and change monthly. You could just put it in a filter bag and place it in a high flow area of your sump.
Definitely beneficial

carbon pellet in a reactor, the water will go through 3 socks(300>200>100 micron) before it head for skimmer>return pump.

I use some generic carbon I got off ebay. It works just fine, very little dust actually. I change my carbon every 3 weeks. It could last a week or so longer, but I'm very SPS heavy so I like to keep to fresh. I keep it in a mesh bag in my sump.

I believe you should use carbon to keep the water clear and pure so light may penetrate. I also believe you should run it to keep rogue chemicals/impurities out of the water. This could be softie warfare, dirty hands, etc. I used to change my carbon monthly with freshwater, and now every 3 w/ salt.

It has been said that it may remove trace elements, but with regular water changes and proper feeding you shouldn't really be worrying about this.

I firmly believe in it and I think you should too.

I used to run a heavy (read recommended) dose of carbon in a reactor 24/7. I then quit the carbon cold turkey. I'm now back to running a minimal amount of carbon in a reactor 24/7 and this seems to be the ticket for my system.

For what is worth there was a great chart comparing effectiveness of carbon brands. The most absorptive was two little fishies brand, cost and absorption was Aquarium pharm: research grade was the most cost efficient. There were some really good names with terrible results.

Also Zeovit recommends placing bag in a passive flow area, and that you knead the carbon bag to remove dirt, I do not remember if it is daily.
