Carbon in sump

Hi,

What's everyone's opinion in putting carbon in a sump?
Is it beneficial or just a waste of time?
Pros and cons?
For or against?

Look forward to your responses

I used carbon in a bag in the sump, not sure of impact. Additionally I run a small BRS carbon/GFO reactor. I would like to see others thoughts

I've always placed bag of carbon in sump. It's just to help keep water clear and add to filtration. Feel like it won't over clean water, running it passively. Change it out monthly and about 1/2 cup for 40 gallon sps/clam tank.

I'm convinced that a bag sitting in the sump doesn't do much.

A reactor, where water is forced through the carbon, is much better for removing metals, toxins, etc.
