Care and Feeding of a Cleaner Shrimp

Hey Guys,

I have had a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp for about 8 months now. Since new I have fed him a little frozen food every other day or so by hand. I do see him scavenging over the tank at night though.

I feed the other tank mates Formula 1 pellets daily and frozen or prepaird foods 1-2 times a week.

My question is, I am leaving town for 4 days and will be having a friend feeding and topping up while I'm away. Should I have him feed the shrimp or do you think he will get enough food by scavenging?

Hi Chuck,
Feeding pellets through a syringe and a PVC tube to the fishes and shrimps, skull cleaner type, and they survived for more than 3 months.

I pump soften pellets into the area of the shrimps once or twice while feeding them once a day. Watch them scrambled for the pellets and scavenging the bottom of the tank in the nights, along with snails and scarlet hermits.
Hope this help.

I dont' see the need to intentionally feed any kind of shrimp, especially lysmata. They are perfectly capable of findting food for their selves and will feed off the leftovers and feces of any fish in the tank.

Now if you dont have fish, you can just feed flake or anything else to the tank anywhere and they will find and eat it.

What size tank is it?

But overall, you won't need to feed any extra for them to stay well nourished, they feed off the leftovers of fish and can scavange for themselves.
