I could have sworn up and down i had a mantis....rapid clicking all the time. I was wrong and now i feel horrible. I was mad because my fish were dying due to a terrible case of ich and while i was taking my yellow tang to the porceline god for burrial, i heard the incessant clicking. I got mad and took the piece of live rock i knew it was in outside and proceeded to squirt a 50:1 ratio of water to vineagar into every tiny hole i could find....I'm so stupid i know, but I wanted him OUT! well, i heard a few clicks and out popped a pistol shrimp, trying desperatly to survive my attack. I rushed her to a small saltbowl i had made just in case i got a surprise....now i feel like an *** because i looked closer and she had eggs!!!!! I am 99% sure i killed her and her eggs....I would post a pic of this beautiful dead creature but i cant get it to work..lets try again

It is a sad that your ire at the ich caused the mad 'kill-the-mantis!' rage. It is even more sad that the pistol shrimp took the brunt of said ire. I think that the saddest thing of all, however, is that the fact that a pistol died upsets you, while had it been a mantis,things would have been fine?

Perhaps I am being a bit harsh, but the majority of folks on this forum are pro-mantis, and do not hold the ignorant view that they are the Devil Incarnate.

The salt water bowl was with water from my tank. I didnt want to kill it I just wanted it out so i wouldnt lose any more animals in the future. I tried traps and everything I could think of before. I have been trying for a month to get the clicker. the saltbowl was to keep whatever i got alive...but I was a little too slow because she was deep inside the rock. I never once said i wanted to kill it.

oh i thought it was just a SALT bowl... didnt say it had good water in it. Jeez you made it seem like you had salt on the side to just kill what ever you found...

but i do agree with Uriel... why would it be ok to kill a mantis and not a pistol. Life is life. no matter what form it comes in.
