I have a Carnation tree coral care that a lfs gave me because it was not looking to good it was only about 2" i got it home put it in my tank that night, the next morrning it was closer to 7" so i guess its happy. the only thing 'm feeding is, Micro-Vert, its been in my tank 7 days now. i just read that they are hard to keep, is there anything els i should be doing??

Making sure it gets enough food will be the biggest hurdle. The more variety you can provide it, the better.

I'm guessing the micro-vert is kinda like DT's. Any other food of that nature should be ok, but I've never had a carnation coral before because of the specialized requirements they need. Beautifull coral, but more trouble than it's worth.

JMO.

nope, not dt's. Check out the new non photo forum here. Plenty of help there but I hate to say unless your doing a non photo tank its doomed.
They need laminar flow, alot of food such as phyto feast, and roti feast.

People are finally keeping them alive, but it is a ton of work

What's the difference between DT's and phyto feast?

A ton. DT's looks like green water, Shell fish diet looks like green tar. Total different products. I'd guess it would take 20 or 30 bottles of dt's to equal the content of the reeds product.
Reeds stuff is a Instant algae where dt's is a live phyto product.
think of the shellfish diet as a concentrate I guess.

So they are the same, one is just more concentrated than the other. Both green. Guess a carnation coral is an omnivore.

nope, not the same, one is a instant algae and the other is a live mix.
its like comparing frozen foods to flake I'd say. Both are food but totally different
Erik

Its not for sure that they are ominvore either. I feed roti feast to which is zoo plankton and I get a good feeding reaction from that too.

i would reduce current during feeding at target ffed phyto, zooplex, oyster eggs leave like that for 15-45 minutes and you should see nice growth and beautiful color

probably the most incorrect information I've read for care of these corals

Am I missing something here? If they will accept something like DT"s or Reeds, and zooplankton, maybe naupli, then wouldn't that be an omnivore? Meats and veggies.

Im not sure if they take in the roti fest, haven't seen the polyps actually eat it. I've seen a feeding responce when added but I didn't have a mesoscope to see them eat it at that time.

I haven't seen them accept dt's though, I have seen the rejection of it though.

I feed the roti feast to the tank because I have alot of other non photo creatures that I know do eat it.

I love the looks of them too, just not quite ready to approach some of the more difficult species...Still learning slowly!
