Does anyone know if they have to tent your house ,to get rid of carpenter ants?

No They do not they have to find the source. Carpenter ants like dark wet wood they do not eat wood like termites they use it to house their colonies. They start most likely in the attic , for starters do you have gutters around your house, or leaky roof? Let me know and I will tell you where to look and what to do

I see them at night coming up the hand rail on my stairs. I find them on my inside sun room. I don't have any gutters,and my roof doesn't leak.

i had this same problem i had a free standing hot tub with the foam insulation in it the have almost completly eatin it out i had no idea they would eat that stuff but i used carpenter ant dust and spray about 3 cans of each lol maby overkill but man i got a pile of dead oned like 1sq. foot by 6 inches high. Creapy lil buggers aint they. they have never come back i agree find the source

No, you don't have to get the house tented....
Try to trim any trees or bushes that may be in contact with the house....that is a good way to get over any area that may have been sprayed. They are a pain the rear.....
If you have any bags of mulch sitting in the yard or anything, they like to hang out there too.

yeah they like to move at night when its cool
get the flash light and follow the trail.
(I used to be in pest control for three years).
i loved looking at customers faces when they found out they were not equal to termites.
they also like to nest at a base of a tree.
dursband works pretty good at home depot. of course they might have some other brand.

Thanks for all the help guys. Is there anything like a bate,that they will carry back to the colony,and KILL THEM ALL. Ted

the dursban granules work great for the most part.
best thing to do is try and stir up the colony then put the dursban on top of them ..
they will then hopefully carry it to the queen
