Carpet Anemone Compatibility

I recently found a gig carpet anemone from a gentleman who is ridding his 125 gallon tank corals and anemones for free being he is moving. So I a just acquired a gigantea from him and was curious if it would be an issue if by chance it were to ever come into contact with my haddonni what would be the outcome? Are they compatible or will the duke it out and kill each other???

I have S. Gigantea with S. Haddoni and I have not had a problem with them being in contact. That being said just be cautious about it as you could experience something different.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412387081.307119.jpg and here is my current carpet (again assuming this one is a haddoni however it lost its color in a friends tank so I'm not 100% sure on this either) the under side has no markings so I can only assume it's a haddoni. There are some faint faint dots on its underside but they are colorless.

Regardless I'll be attempting to keep them away from one another however if they choose to move because I put them in a crappy spot then I just wanted to know if all hell will break loose.

That is a S. Gigantea as well, when not fully acclimated or stressed Gigantea can lose a lot of their color on their Verracue but in time it will return once established and doing well. Nice finds, I wish you the best of luck.

Ya i know that's why I took it from him. He was bright green. He's starting to get some color back around the edges. I figure in about a month I'll get him back to normal.

As for it being a gig I did not know. The tentacles on the white "green" one are really thin versus the purple one they are short and fat in comparison.

You cannot ID carpets by tentacles as due to many reasons in captivity. Haddoni, Gigantea and Mertensii can all look alike until acclimated and doing well. Proper ID comes from other traits of the anemone, Verracue being the best to judge by.

Right. By all means I'm not arguing being I was only guessing this whole time. However, I didn't see any visible Verracue on the white carpet on the underside but I do see some small barely visible dots. Which I can only assume now will show their color as soon as the nem itself gains his complete color back?

I know, I was just pointing it out :) The Verracue should come back faster then the color of the Gigantea, however I have never experienced color loss on Verracue so I cannot say for certain how long it will take. Many other people who lurk this forum can correct me if I am wrong.

Okie dokie cool. I've had it for Id say almost two weeks and he's already gaining his green back. And before my friend "ruined" him he was a beautiful fluorescent green. So I can't wait to get him back to health. I love the challenge of taking on "coral and invert rescues" it's a fun thing to me

I agree that the new one is a gig for sure with a possibility of already owned anemone being a gig as well. It has a more "furry" appearance than most Haddonis.

Cool. Well the new carpet is all acclimated and already stuck himself to the bottom and partial bottom of a rock. So he's good to go.
