carpet anemone

80 degrees, salt at .024, i run a ro/di unit for my water and am using reef cristals to mix with, i do one gallon a day on water changes, the skimmer is pulling some stuff, but not much, i have not test peramiters that much, but with him moving im going to switch to 2 gallons a day for a week to see if he settles down, the tank has been running for atleast 4 months and with stuff for 2 before i put the anemone and coral in, the damsels well..became food for the carpet within a week of being in the tank

i have some stuff coming to add to the load and to clean up, i have some hermits and some snails but im going to update the clean up crew to an oversized hermit, and a bristle star fish, also a manderin to help with the overload of co-pods, they are everywhere, and an emerald crab also. the two clowns are the only fish in the tank at the moment.

the tank is a 72 gallon, plus 20 high sump, and it is less than an inch from the top, ...so essentially total water volume of 90p gallons

phosphate is testing at .025, ammonia testing at 0, high range ph is 7.8 or 8, so close, calcium test over 400, nitrate is 0 or 5, hard to see between the two

Good evening,

I know that this thread has been inactive for a bit but i have a green carpet that just split on its own they are both doing just fine and seem happy i have only had it for about three months or so... I have attached pictures the first is when i first bought it, second is when i noticed it splitting down the sides (looked like a figure 8) and the third is when it fully split you can see the two mouths i had always tried to get pictures of what the foot looked like but my camera on my phone would not pick it up... does anyone have any info on this?

That is not a carpet anemone. That looks to be either a yuma or ricordia mushroom (I am terrible remembering which is which). Not uncommon for them to split.

that looks like a green hairy mushroom... will continue to split under the right conditions.

seriously! the LFS sold it to me as a green carpet for $60... I guess I got got... I did a quik google search and it looks like it could be either the ricordia mushroom or the green hairy mushroom. I guess I need to try and find out what this thing is then I am kinda ****ed now... Well thanks for the knowledge I just wish i know about this a while ago!

Sorry to be the bearers of bad news. It is a nice looking mushroom and your tank is doing well if it has split so many times. Should probably throw a brick through the stores window. Just sayin.

Yea, everything seems to be doing great. It just blows that i was sold one thing and told another... How bad did I get ripped off? I paid about 60 bucks for one of these things and it was only a couple of inches if that...
