a local club memeber here was tearin down there tank, and gave me a pretty big carpet anemone that is brow\tan ( about 6 inch acroos for 20.00 ) my question is his tomatoe was hostin it, so i thought it would be fine for my allardi clowns. what kinda of carpet anemone is brown though?? its tentacles arent super short, there more like normal shaped tentacles ( no bubbles) jsut only about 1/4 inch long. ill try to get pic here as soon as hes done accliamting.

heres a pic, couldnt get a pic of the base, but its a light tan in color, with darker colored dots around the top edge, kinda like the dots from a lta, but smaller. waht do you think it is???

S. mertensii or S. helianthus. Looks like an S. helianthus to me (Atlantic carpet anemone) but it might be S. mertensii if you are REALLY lucky. Can you get a closer photo?

ill get one on here by tonight. under my lights he is no longer brown. he is infact bluish green, with purple tips. does this mean anything?? also if he is an s. helianthus is he no longer safe to have with clowns?? what would be the difference metween mertensii and helianthus

As long as clowns aren't eaten by it, it is safe :) Truthfully clowns will go into just about anything if they don't have a host anemone available. Atlantic carpet or condylactis anemones are not as unusual as soft corals and clams :)
