Carpet anenome and Mandarine a bad mix.

Pretty simple actually. Mandarines skim across the rocks looking for food. If it skims across the anemone and tries to perch on it... well... the anemone would eat well.

I've heard almost any fish except one that is symbiotic with a carpet (saddlebacks?), is unsafe with a carpet. I've heard of them eating tangs, angels, etc...ect...ect. I would only put a carpet into a dedicated species tank.

:)

I had a carpet years ago when I was going to school in my 18 gal mini reef in my apartment it was 4" across when I got it and within a week it had expanded to cover almost the entire tank I was cleaning one day without my gloves (stupid thing to do) and the back of my hand came in contact with the anemone and it felt like I had boiling water poured over my hand I pulled my hand out of the tank and rinsed it with freshwater and had what the doctor called a chemical looking burn for over 3 months needless to say that was the first and last time I kept a carpet anemone

A buddy of mine had a carpet basically engulf his whole arm, needless to say I won't keep any after that.

I have had a blue carpet anenome for over a month now. And i can say you do not want a mandarine in a tank with it. Since i have gotten the anenome i havent seen my mandarine :( ....

It was a impuls buy at the local LFS and it was way cheaper then i have seen them useally go for.. I knew my tank was up long enuf to keep an anenome but i didnt think about the mandarine going on it... needless to say i wont make that mistake again.. the other fish seem to not go anywhere near it soo i wouldnt worry to much with other fish..
