Carpet Nem on its way, Need advises

I also took water samples so that you guys can better help me with this process.

AS of 1/24/2011

S.G 1.025 Hanna
Ph ~7.7-8.0 Salifert
Alk 7.4 dKH Salifert (out of curiosity, I tested the Alk level from water that was in the bag and it reads 10.9 dkH!) so I raised the Alk level to 8.0 dKH.
Cal 400 Salifert
Mag 1410 Salifert
Phospate 0.0 Hanna
Nitrate 0.0 Salifert

I like how complete you reported your numbers. If only more would do the same when asking such questions....

Indeed nice looking. The acclimation process takes a day or so when it's in your display tank, don't sweat it too much. How does it look today? From a shipping perspective, it looks healthy. Good Luck.

UPDATE

The anemone survives the first night in the tank. Sometime last night and this morning it has its footing into the rock and sand. The mouth is completely close (a good sign?).

LIGHT

I don't have a window screens so I raised the fixture up high about 15" above the tank and had 2 bulbs of T5 running, will this work?

PH

What's the best way to raise the tank Ph without having a ph spike? I do have a ph buffer.
Once the anemone footing its base, I'll have the photo of it soon.

Thanks

I would wait a few days before you start feeding it. See if it stays fully inflated for 3 to 4 days, than I would try some krill, squid, or mysis. I currently own a blue haddoni and purple haddoni and both are voracious eaters.

It took my purple haddoni around 5 days to completely seal its mouth, which started at the size of a quarter. It is a very good sign that the anemones mouth is completely closed so far, but still keep an eye on it. If the anemone starts deflating and inflating than it is a sign of bad things to come.

As for the pH I like to use a 2 part dosing regimine/ water changes to keep parameters in check. Looks like you are testing your parameters which is a good thing, for you and the haddoni. IME powdered pH buffer is junk.

Lastly get some pictures up :)

I would get some window screening -- I don't like raising the lights/shortening the photo period, etc. -- I have found it to be the most effective (( and easiest ))

When are you measuring your pH? If your Cal, Alk and Mag levels are in check, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Could try cracking a window and see if it goes up -- excess CO2 in the house.

Update

Thanks everyone, The Anemone is doing well. Last night the protein skimmer went nuts and most of the waste got into the tank. The anemone is stirring up the sand bed, as it footing itself, could this be the reason? Anyway, I fear that there might be ammonia spike so I did a test this morning, and it looks fine. I also took another Alk reading.

Ammonia < 0.25 Salifert
Alk 8.1 Salifert

picture coming soon.

Plans

Will continue to monitor, increased light slowly, and feeding this weekend.

On to the next question.

I have a small Picasso Clown fish that shows no interest to the Anemone. any suggestion?

It could take a while my SI percs continue to host their brain coral 12 inches to the left of mine and the nem has been in the tank since November 20th.

Looks great! The clowns unfortunately are always a hit or miss when it comes to hosting nems :sad2:

Thank you everyone, the anemone looks healthy and adjusting to its environment. To give the anemone more room, I ended up having to trim some of the SPS corals around it. When fully open, it’s about 13-15”in diameter. Last night I tried to feed it with silver back but it didn’t take it, any suggestion? Also, the juvenile clown fish still show no interest.

Best

Some people on this forum have had bad luck with feeding silversides, reporting deaths of the anemone after feeding. It took my purple haddoni around 4 days to start feeding. I feed both my blue haddoni and purple chunks of krill, squid, and some PE mysis, sometimes soaked in selcon, which they take down pretty quickly.
