Carpet nem owners

It's looks like it's doing nicely. My personal preference is keeping other nems (except aiptasia) out if possible.

I'm sure others have kept different kinds together.
I would have a backup plan in case it doesn't go well.

My gig is not eating yet. I am not worried as it looks healthy and is very sticky, Mouth/s has been closed tight. Percs have not been bothering it. I'll just wait a week or so before trying again.
It rejected mysis, and the one time i fed it that the stupid fish circle it now looking for a free meal. :( At this point i dont care about the fish anymore, But my sohal and orange shoulder can damage the nem greatly if it caught them with the spines.
I am keeping an eye on them and start feeding the gig at night will be the best thing in the future.
 
Just want to clairify my last post i didnt mean to sound like a jerk, But i didnt want sponsors mentioned so the thread would not get moved to a vendors forum.

Nem is still doing great. VERY sticky and huge now. Sure hope to get some clones off of it.
 
Mine has expanded quite large. Bigger than i thought! Its ok because i planned on letting it grow full size anyway.
I dunno if its because its so large that it needs more mouths, or it will split. I hope it does split. I'll take some pics along the way to show progress. Hopefully it is past all the trouble and thrives in my tank.

Has anybodys healthy gigantea's ever deflated?
I read somewhere and cant find it now is that its not a good sign to see one deflated.
Would like to hear imput on this.

I think its the beginning of the end for this guy its deflated and inflated a few times today. Never looked like this before.
Looks like its trying to stretch apart The pedal was inflated 3-4 times its usual today. It was huge.
Making up waterchange water so when it go's i can change it. I am assuming the stench will be horrable. I have had a clam die before so i am basing it on that smell. Ack.
Thanks for the help all i believe in 1-2 days it will be dead. Funny how it can go from this yesterday. to dead tomorrow.
 
sorry to hear, big ones are really difficult, more tissue to damage in collection.

The mouths are open, Not gaping. There seems to be poop like stuff coming out time to time. The fish seem to like to eat it.
Its inflating and deflating but no spawning. This is the third time in the last 24 hrs its inflated. Yesterday it lasted 8 or so hrs before deflating but the mouths were closed while deflated. Oh well might have to try haddoni's next when i can build myself up to spend the dough on another high priced nem. LFS near me dont get these types of nems in because they dont sell them or they end up dead, so online is my only place to get them.
The slime is the culprit of fouling the water in shipping, It turns to ammonia fast and lowers ph quickly. I think amonia is the enemy with shipping them. Maybe shipping them without water may be better like they do hermit crabs because they are so dirty and would just foul the water up.
Frieght shipping may be the best option on a healthy gig.
 
Sorry to hear. Same thing happened with mine after a week or two...I read every thread on Gigantea's I could back then too. Had a good friend come over and help me acclimate it and we spent a lot of time trying to give it the best chance of survival by careful placement, flow, lighting, etc. Just an anemone better left in the ocean.
 
My gig is going on 4 months, but its definitely my baby. I have it in a 70 gallon tek tank under a 250 watt halide and T5 actinics, and they system is plumbed into a joint sump - about 350 gallons total.

I feed my gig pea-sized pieces of fresh shrimp, scallop, squid, and fish. I feed every 3 days.

Although I feel I bought a healthy specimen, it has been tricky. I don't think I've quite figured out flow yet, as it often has its tentacles more retracted than I like. I have 2 korallia 4's in the tank, with them both coming on for a minute and off for a minute. Although I'm glad to have made it this far I'm not sure how happy I'm making it.
 
Glad you had it this long! Its def one of those things that if you do get one to thrive its a gift.
 
Well the gig is still around which is amazing. because i thought it would be dead by now. I have been keeping the water clean by skimming really wet, changing carbon, waterchanges every day, and getting it more flow. It has reacted positively. It's not going to die because i didn't try. :)
I do see thinning in the walls of the pedal and disk where it would split if it was going to. Some area's where its showing its beginning to separate and get very small tears, Looks like a dot to dot line across the disk. Not going to lie its been doing some weird things. It has not did the nem death roll, or invert its mouth which is a good sign to me.
Theres 3 scenarios.
1. Just gonna die.
2. Its splitting.
3. It will die splitting.
The odds are against me, and i have made peace with that.
I have been ready to pull the smelly rotted corpse out every morning and every morning its alive. All i can do now is keep my fingers crossed.

I found an unexpected problem. A rock borer urchon had been parked around the foot of the gig. That could have been adding to the mess here. I pulled him off the rock and got rid of him last night. It could be that the urchin was behind the foot and was injuring the nem by lancing it or even bothering the foot. It was about the size of a 50 cent piece.
I never seen him before,, I did get rid of 3 of them when i moved the tank over. I must have missed a baby.
The gig is looking better than he had in a long time.
Still crossing fingers here!!!
