carpet surfing gobies

It seems that everytime I add a new goby, the one that was already in there commits kazy-kazmo. First I added a warty(?) goby(2 1/2"), he was in there for about a month, then I added a diamond goby(3") and the warty jumped a day later. I had the diamond goby for about a month and I just added 2 juvinille engineer gobys(2") and the next morning, my diamond goby was a crispy critter on the floor. What the heck? Do they just not like each other, or is it just coincidence? I run open top, but if i put glass lids on and try it again with another diamond goby, is there gonna be some unhappy fish since they can't "get away".

Lots of fish are jumpers, in fact, I'd say all could be jumpers. Gobys and wrasses just more than normal.

Yeah, for as much as those guys skiter around rocks and the bottom, they become carpet jerky way too easily. I am going to make some screens that will lay on top just like window screens only the right size. You can buy the plastic/fiberglass screen and aluminum frame at most hardware stores. Pretty easy DIY

Both glass and screen seem, to me anyway, to be "restrictive" of the lighting, wich is better..... ah hell, i'm just gonna get a canopy!

Canopy would be the best, screens would be second. I made a set of screens for my 75 tank for under $20.00 buying everything from home depot. Plus it only takes about an hour. could do that until you can get a canopy built.

I've mentioned this before but I think it's unfair. I've removed my screen with the hope that my my goby would take a ride on the wild side. It's been two months & he's still there. I've had it with cleaning the sand off the rocks daily.

I know it's not his fault. It's mine for buying that p.o.s. fine sand.
