Carpets and Fish

I'm currently in the planning stage for a new tank (32 X 30 X 24.) The plan is to eventually feature a Carpet Nem in the sand bed. Of course, the requisite clowns will be present, but I'm curious what other fish are least at risk for becoming a meal. What have folks had long-term luck with (realizing there's always a risk.)

any fish could become a meal. the most likely victims are fish that reside near the bottom of the sand bed like gobies and mandarin.

Yep. Any fish can be a meal to carpet anemone. but I haven't got a problem with mine.

Small predatory fish and fish that eat mostly plankton are usually OK. Fish that are grazers like tangs, dwarf angels and rabbitfish tend to blunder into carpets in my experience.

Spooked fish are more likely blunder into carpets. Keep this in mind when you work in your tank.
I lost all three of my Orchid Dottybacks to my carpets. All my Mandarins. My Angels are fine. My baby Regal even use carpet as protection when I fist added her into my tank. Almost cause me to go into cardiac arrest.

Did haddoni, gigs, or both eat your mandarins?

Don't know. I got both carpets. The Orchid Dottyback and Mandarin are all healthy just disappears without trace. I just guess that the carpet got them. I never have problem keeping these two species before. Three Dottybacks and two Mandarins.
Mandarin I can guess but Orchid Dottyback was a surprise to me.

I had a fox face get spooked when I reached into the tank for something and he dove right into my haddoni. Because of his size, he was able to thrash his way free. He recovered but it pulled all the flesh off one side. He was ugly for a while. The haddoni just smiled and waved...

Do your fishes a favor, put a basket over your carpet if you have to work in your tank.
Over a year or two ago, one of my large carpet spawned. I have to do emergency water change in the evening after I got home. Just because I turn the room light on, my Australian Tusk, who normal fast asleep 1/2 an hour before the light out, woke up and blunder into a Gigantea carpet. That was one of the most expensive carpet food I ever feed my carpet.
