Castle Grayskull Theme 240 gallon Basement in Wall Ghetto Build

The dig out for the walk out has been delayed again. We have a guy coming out to disconnect the AC unit on Thursday. Friday or Saturday someone is coming out to reroute the gas line that is in the way. Supposedly the digging will begin monday and concrete will be poured tuesday. I do not know when the basement door will go in. The door needs to be installed in order to get the fish tank into the basement.

So no real update. I do have the final grayscull in the mantis shrimp tank. Hopefully it will have a bit of algae before it goes into the display tank.

The basement door is in! They snipped my internet line so I have to use my phone to post. It may be a while before pics. The tank will be down stairs today or tomorrow.

Finally

The people started on Wednesday of last week. Finished on Friday. Overall very pleased other than the time it took to get them out here. Breaking the internet connection sucked big time. Almost a full week with the net is sure depression.

The door and retaining wall to the basement. The make believe garage will go to the right of the wall. In the spring we are going to add an above ground deck and another door for the first level.

I spent most the day sunday polishing the tank. Still a little more to go, but it looks way better than before.

Still a long way to go, but yeah for tanks not in the breakfast nook!.:p

Mag drive 18 ordered
Reef Crystals ordered
Heaters ordered

I'll be shopping for some more substrate possibly today. We'll see how the kid is behaving.

Counter top and trim this weekend....fingers crossed.

I took a quick look at the pvc piping. I need to extend some pieces and shorten some.

Mini update...

The other side of the basement has been drywalled, mudded, sanded and primed. The carpet is ripped up. Should have some finish paint on in the next day or so.

No kidding I was thread diving and ran across some guys tank build thread. After a couple of pages I found out I was looking at his computer plans on what he was building. Makes my tank seem remedial at best.

I have an Aqua C protein skimmer and its a good skimmer. A bit on the old side but it works. With this big tank Im afraid of water flow problems. I dont know if you can tell from my super detail drawing, but I plan on putting the Mag drive 9.5 in the tank beside the overflow. The mag drive is going to feed the Aqua C and then return it into the tank from above via the pvc pipe. Im a little worried about air bubbles.

WooHooo! Big day! How are you filling? Do you have a bunch of water made already or are you slowly filling right from your RO unit?

I have an RO line run through the rafters for the auto top off. Its currently being used to fill the tank.

I mixed salt in sump area before hand. There is sand in the tank already. Supposedly it is live sand (Dont know how much I buy into that). The salt is getting mixed as it the tank fills. Not the best way, but the best way I could think of.

The tank measures 25 inches high and is 240 gallons. So I figured every five inches of tank gets a 50 gallon bag of salt. If you look at the blue tape on the right its marked with numbers 1 through 5. The bags of salt are marked with corresponding numbers.

To help the cycling of the tank I have a few gallons of new salt water mixed up. The old tanks are getting cleaned and their waste water is getting dumped into the new tank.
