I've been using it for a couple months, I'll never go back

wow all us nano keepers and only 2 of us even trying using the Catalina NSW, I have seen a difference after only 2 days and I started to add up salt costs today and buying bottled water or an ro/di unit, not to mention the inconsistencies in trying to make small batches of water for water changes and it was a no brainer for me why am I doing all this work, when I can go out and buy a good quality NSW for what it was costing me to mix salt and fight with trying to get the right salinity,Ca, Alk levels for my sps nano with every water change

I get mine at PetCo, It's 10.49 for 5 gallons in the store,
and also available on line, but I don't know about the shipping

I've been using it for most of my weekly water changes since last year, I love it, and so do my corals. I have an R/O unit that I use for top off water, but in my 30 gal cube I change 10% per week and no additives or costly testing each time you use additives. I check once a month as long as everything looks good, and ca is 400 to 450, dh is 11, ph is 8.2, all I have to do it add some R/O with the catalina as it is usually 1.027 specific gravity. Other then lugging a couple of boxes of the water (40 plus pounds each) its all good.

I gave this alot of thought today and the $$$$ we spend in this hobby even if I had a 180 I would buy this salt

Ill stick to my $1.25/gallon premix from the LFS - havent had any probs yet and I dont have to worry about mixing small batches at home

im a big fan of NSW. here in south florida my local LFS carries water right from the ocean for .50/g. they also provide RO @ .25/g

the corals love it and its very convinient.

My LFS give me water for my nano changes for free (well sometimes they give me 15g for my 75 for free too)

it pays to be nice to the owner of the LFS.

do you really feel that you get added advantages over mixed saltwater using this (other than not having to mix it yourself)?

Much better at getting it in the store as the online store price is 9.99 each and I added 5 to the cart the total came up to 49.95 but the shipping charge (to NY) is 52.95 which is 3 dollars more than the water itself plus this will kill your UPS guy with 225lb weight.

my thinking is that natural sea water will be balanced and contain all necasary trace elements as they occur in the ocean.

if this is what the mixes try to copy, than the original shuld be better.

i wonder if there isnt a bit of plankton in localy collected water as well.

I think on paper that sounds logical enough - but I wonder if it would really bring a noticeable difference in practice though.

I have been using catalina water since day 1, well its only been 2.5 weeks since I started my tank. Thus far, everything has gone great, tank cycled quickly with cured LR, LS, and the catalina water. I dont plan on changing a good thing and experimenting with other SW.

Catalina stocks most of the stores here in SoCal so I'd say there are more than just the two of you...
