catalina t5ho?

I read that but Im noy worried, a frien order a retro from thems a week ago and it came in perfect condition and I hope mine come ok. Why be negative?!

I have ordered from catalina twice. Once to buy my fixture, and once for replacement bulbs. The fixture is well constructed, and the bulbs are very nice as well. The 10k bulbs will turn pinkish when getting close to a year old, but all bulbs age. I have an 8x39watt fixture with a now almost sps dominated 85gal. I can say that I can't get good color at the bottom of the tank, so I keep my acros in the upper 2/3's of the tank.

The individual reflectors that they sell are NOT parabolic, but do work better than without them. I can attest to this as I ran my fixture both with and without the reflectors. I am able to maintain and get excelent growth out of every acro I have. Most people in my reef club can attest to this as I am constantly fragging :)

While catalina lights are clearly not the "best" or most expensive, they are functional, and effective. In retrospect, I would have had my canopy built taller and went with a set of 400watt halides. But, overall I am quite pleased with my investment in catalina t5's.

When I think of Aqua Universe I think of Aquacon and Aquatraders. Enough said.

While I respect your opinions on t5's since you pretty much are the authority on the subject here :) I tend to think you may be basing your opinion on Aqua universe (catalina, psl, etc...) on what others have posted, not on your direct personal experience. If I am wrong, I apologize in advance. I do however see your point and understand you are simply trying to save this guy money in the long run. Upgrading lights does get expensive.

mecold - your tank is beautiful!!!!!! With your experience with this lighting, do you think that 78w of t5ho will be ok for almost all the corals with the exeption of sps in my 30g?

I don't think much of companies that sell under multiple names and spam on reefboards to get buisiness. Seeing people with horror stories just backs up that opinion.
