Catastrophe! Rookie Mistake, sad, sad consequences...

I'm an idiot! Just bought an osmolator, haven't hooked it up...yup, turned the 300gpd DI unit on...forgot it. Roughly 200 gallons of freshwater poured in over the course of the day.

I had also just bought a bunch of beautiful extra healthy fish from REEFY1 (So sorry Chad.) Lost Foxface, mated clowns, coral beauty, 2 chromis, purple firefish, two montis, and a bunch of acro frags. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the two yellow tangs, the sixline wrasse, two chromis, and sailfin tang that are still breathing...barely.

I don't know why I'm posting this except I'm just really sad.

You may already know this but essentially your fish are getting a massive hyposalinity treatment. If you raise the salinity too quick they too will likely expire. The corals you have remaining need to get reacclimated quickly though. Let me know if you need a place to put them as I am happy to try to help you out there. Otherwise it looks like you will be choosing between fish versus corals. The fish you have left are very hardy though.

Sorry for your loss. Again, let me know if you need anything to save whatever you can.

Thanks, I appreciate it. The choice was actually pretty easy. No corals left. It was more of a no salinity treatment. I did lose the two chromis. The two yellow tangs look great, but the sailfin and sixline are definitely not out of the woods.

On a positive note for the sailfin, I had already counted him out once anyway. When I discovered the tank, he was lying behind the rock white and motionless. As a matter of fact in my hurry to try and scoop up the living fish, he was nearly burried with sand. It wasn't until all the commotion was over, and I scooped up his body that it moved pectoral fin just enough to let me know he was still there. So, he's light years better than he was. I'll just keep crossing my fingers.

You know, I'm not sure. I moved the living to another tank. Tending to them, and the human kids,I've left it sitting. Been adding saturated salt water a little at at time. I'll get it back to normal after the kids are in bed tonight.

Also, I can't stress enough how awesome a floor drain is.
