Catching a cleaner shrimp

Anyone have any good ideas on how to catch a cleaner shrimp? It has been in my system forever but I also have wanted it out forever.
It is only a 29g tank with a lot of rock so he's tricky.
Maybe some kind of homeade trap?

Any help is appreciated,
Zac

I place my hand in the tank and most of the time my cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp jump onto my hand and start tickling me. Kinda freaked me out the first time, shrimp started walking up my arm pulling at hairs.

If you can hand feed try putting some mysis or shrimp pieces in the net . Let it climb on and start to eat and scoop.

eeewwwwww nets, nets are so damaging, i never use a net, never let a pet store use a net when purchasing, never never never.

always use a small container please!!!

stick your hand in the tank with some food in it.

might take a few days of trying but that shrimp will eventually jump in your hand and eat it.

Mine always jumps onto my hand and starts trimming my cuticles. (sp) So have never had an issue. Get someone with dry skin and they will come and take care of it. Why do you wnt it out?

I had to pull mine out a long time ago to treat my system with Interceptor. Mine also always came right up and started crawling on my hand UNTIL I wanted to get them out. Then they were nowhere to be seen.

I ended up taking a chunk of silverside and attaching it to the front pane of the tank with an algae clip after lights out. Then used a pasta strainer to trap it to the glass when it jumped on the piece of silverside.

Was a major PITA... but eventually worked.

I made a trap to get mine out. I took a water bottle cut the top of it off, so you will end up a funnel. Cut some small holes into the lower part of the bottle (so it will sink when in the water). I then took the upper part (the funnel) inverted it and glued it to the lower part of the bottle. Let dry, put a good sized piece of food in the bottle for bait. Place the bottle on the bottom of the tank and wait. I had better luck catching them this way after the lights where out, because the fish would also try and get the food when the lights where on.

I want it out because I can't feed my LPS for the life of me without it just rippin all the food out of their mouths. Especially my acans.

mine always comes to my hand whenever it is in my tank, and if i'd let him he'd crawl into it.. i don't think it would be very hard to catch him

I have that same problem with my cleaner shrimp when it comes to feeding as well but I throw him a piece to munch on and he is fine after that. I still watch him after just to make sure he isn't stealing from my corals mouths and if he does I just move the turkey baster in front of him and he hides. Or you could feed at night if that makes anything different.

If you really want him out,I think the food in your hand and letting him go up to you is a good way. They normally just cruise right on up to the hand so it'll take a few trys but you'll get him :)

Haha, that's what I thought too when I tried to catch one once. They are as fast if not faster than a fish. Fish trap is prolly your best bet.

Or you could Interceptor your tank, jk! that would be cruel.

I tried to catch a fish using the 2 2L bottle trick. didn't work on my shy fish, but the cleaners went in within a few minutes.
