catching a maroon clown

If I were you I would wait until the lights have been off for several hours. Then use a clear plastic container in one hand and use your other hand to herd the clown into the container. Clownfish are slow moving when they are asleep and generally are not very aggressive.

I caught my maroon by turning off the lights and literally scooping him out of the anemone with only my hand and he did not try to fight it at all. I tried ripping my tank apart in the past to get them out with alot of frustration and little luck but the whole lights out method is golden.

Interesting, this clown uses a large bubble coral as a host and he likes to stay around it or behind it. I've even tried putting the bubble coral inside the trap so he would follow it but he wouldn't. Even tried using a glass wine carafe with food in it but he wouldn't go in it.

Did you try catching him at lights out? Did it work?

Nope, tried late last night and early this morning....he was behind a rock and could not get to him at all. Starting to run out of ideas at this point.

Keep at it you will get him. Try again tonight. Change the rocks around if needed so that he wont want to swim behind the rock at night

I caught some fish with lights off method. around 3 or 4am, I turned on all the tank lights at once. the fish start swimming but gets dazed and sluggish.. caught a few that way
you can put something behind the rocks so the fish have to find another spot to sleep at night

This guy always stays low and very close to the rocks and he also has lots of caves to go in and out of. Yesterday before i tried lights out, i also tried using a bait hook with a piece of shrimp on it. I must have not had the food on there properly because he was able to rip it off and eat it. I may try that again.

I've gone fishing in my own tank before, really hard with small fish.
I wouldn't feed the fish for a few days then place a trap in. Bait the trap with small chunks of shrimp, all fish my fish eventually went in except a royal gramma.
