hey so i have a tank that breeds pods like crazy... but it is really hard to catch them to give away... i have been just using a net which is time consuming... i have searched for alternative ways of catching them and haven't found anything even related to catching pods... does anyone have any ideas... not sure how to attract them to a trap... what bait would i used... either that or i was thinking maybe using an led and see if they are attracted to light... any ideas are welcome no matter how crazy they may be

I have a filter sock on my overflow output and I only get about 4 or 5 pods in it when I clean it out every 2 or 3 days. Most people just have the macro algae in the sump and when they harvest the macro just give it away and it has pods all through it. I had a small acrylic container (8"X4"X6") filled with rubble rock in my sump and when I lifted it out to get some rock out , it was filled with pods.
Are you more concerned with giving them away or just reducing the population? I got a mandarin and now my pods are kept in check.

well i have one tank that is just a few corals and macros... pods grow like crazy there and i wanted to catch them to give away to people that need them... my display has tons of pods as well as my sump but you don't really see the pods cause the sump is hidden and the pods hide in the display tank unless it is dark... it is also hard to catch them in the sump and the display... the other tank they are all over the rocks and sand during the light period plus it is easily accessible... i tried the sock but the flow is minimal between the pod tank and my display so i didnt see them in the sock today at all... so long story short i have no problem with having an abundance of pods in that tank and i want to catch them to A) give to other people and B) be able to throw a bunch in my display at one time for feeding
a turkey baster doesn't realy work well because it will suck up sand as well as means i have to try and grab them... i am looking for a more passive way to catch them like a trap...
my cheato is rooted in the sand so that makes it hard but i will probably do that... i found thread for catching nocturnal animals that are attracted to light... i am going to try to build a similar device for my tank... i was thinking about making a piece of acrylic shaped like an ] to sink in the sand and then make a container that will fit inside of it with a funnel top... hopefully the critters will fall into it and have a hard time escaping... i could then try bait in this as well as attach a small led light on the outside of the tank to see if they are attracted to light... the idea of sinking it in the sand is so they will be walking around on the sand bed and fall into the trap... after i build this i will send pics... might have other uses too like catching bristle worms
