Cats paw coral on vacation...

I am on vacation and decided to check out the only LFS here today. They are having a half off sale on all corals and had a lovely (browning) stylophora for $60. It is baseball sized and has a little commensal crab. The sale is only today from 6-9 pm and I asked but they can't reserve anything or keep it till I leave. Is there any way I could keep it alive until Sunday morning? The car ride will be ~8hrs. Should I let it go? ThanksN

oh you got another 50% discount ? wasnt it 60 ?

if coral is stressed .. [not sure what you mean by lovely browning] then it wont make it.

Originally 60 but half off it costs 30. It is starting to brown at the base but the tips are a lovely pink color...it isn't under the best light or flow right now.

I know I'm too late to help but most of the corals ordered in at a LFS have spent much longer in transit, with no water movement. I've brought many frags home from Portland, OR, about a 6 hour drive. I use a cooler with a small heater and a maxijet. Just glue the corals to the bottom. Works great.

The coral should be able to handle the drive easily. Toss it in a large cooler with clean saltwater and make sure that the car doesn't get too toasty or too cold and you're good to go. The water sloshing around in the cooler will provide more than enough aeration. If you can't get a speciman at your lfs, getting a frag from a fellow reepkeeper isn't an option, and you really like this one, then snag it.
