Caught my mantis shrimp!!

Took a while but finally caught the mantis shrimp in my display tank. I've lost a couple of fish to him. Found his little hole that he loves to hunt from and plugged both ends with blue tac. Removed the rock and flushed it with sparkling water. Came straight out. Grabbed him with pair of plastic tongues which he struck a couple of times with a loud crack. Glad it wasn't my finger. The pic isn't the best. Probably 2-3 inches in length. Hopefully no more clicking in the tank.

Clicking is the sign of a Mantis Shrimp??? Uh-oh ...

I've been hearing some sporadic clicking coming from my nanoCube, thought maybe it was one of the small pumps starting to go bad.

I have not lost any fish (2 Clowns, 1 Chromis & 1 Firefish) or CUC lately - but did lose a couple of peppermint shrimp shortly after I put them in there a couple of months ago.

Was the Mantis visible when you heard the clicking? Should I be looking for one of those ugly things when I hear clicking?

Goldndoodle if you suspect a mantis I would check around the base of your rock for a den. I wait until lights out then search with a flash light for the feelers. If you think you found a den try spot feeding it and see if anything jumps out.

Mantis shrimp are my biggest fear when it comes to my tank. I've never herd someone say "Oh, I saw a mantis shrimp in my tank and then I caught him" Its always weeks or months before you get them out. Good idea with the the sparkling water. I've never herd that before.

Mantis shrimp

The mantis shrimp unbeknown to me came with my live rock when I started up the tank about 6 months ago. The clicking has got progressively worse over the last couple of months. I've never seen him until about four week ago when I purchased a couple of nessarius snails and heard heaps of loud clicks and looked at the tank and spotted him attacking it late at night. Ever since I used a flash light when the lights were out and spotted him in one of the holes. I previously tried the bottle trap but all it did was catch my fairy wrasse and a few snails.
