Caulerpa control!

Okay everyone...

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to control the Calerpa I foolishly started growing in my predator tank. I was thinking perhaps an urchin.

It's a 37 tall with a Lion Fish and a 14" Snowflake eel.

I would worry about the eel eating the urchin, though I do not believe that to be in his normal diet. If he is well fed then I wouldn't worry about him eating the urchin. You could also get yourself a tang... though the tank may be a bit small for a smaller version of the fish and your lion might eat them if it is too small.

I had to take out the Caulerpa out piece by peice and scrub the live rock to get that accomplished. Cutting the light back is good to as long as there is not corals dependant upon that.

Prune it or start growing it in a fuge. You don't want to get rid of it because it is scrubbing your water. Your nitrates and phosphates are probably pretty low because of it. It is making everything in your tank healthier.

If you can get a large (7 to 8 inch) rabbit, scribbled or virgate, he will take it on, and some people retire them from tanks because of size. They come larger than that.

I vote for no Caulerpa... Buy Cheato instead... more like and sos pad and wont attach and root into rock work

I had a nice load of caulpera on my rock and my Yellowtang took care of it. You don't want caulpera growing in your tank, it goes sexual and makes a BIG mess.

take all rocks with it rooted down and put them in the dark with a pump and heater for a 2-3 month period after pulling off all the visible stuff.

A 7"-8" Rabbit fish in a 37 tall, kinda tight :rolleye1:

Take as much out as you can by hand. Then get a bunch 10-20 of mexican turbos. They will finish the rest off once the easy-pickings algae is all gone. Once the turbos finish it off, get rid of most of them or else they will starve to death.

I have a yellow in my 125 gallon preditor tank and he keeps the chulurpa from going nuts . I still have to prune it back once a month.
