Hello all,
PE in my sps tank is not as great as I'd like. I had a bi-color angel some time ago that I thought was the cause. It's been about 1 month since he's been out of the tank but pe is still not too strong.
I've done everything I think I can and the only thing I can think of is maybe the caulerpa in the fuge. Here are fuge details.
about 10 gallons (small) 80 main tank.
most of the return goes to refugium then gravity flows to main tank
about 2" oolitic sand and about 3/4" Miracle mud.
MM made the caulerpa grown very well, before mm I could not get macro to grow.
MM is about 1 year old but tank was moved about 4 months ago.
I have a clump of chaeto as well that does ok.
Lit by a florescent socket light 24/7
Possible problem:
I get alot of bubbles in the caulerpa basically chocking it and I'm wondering if this can be leaching some nasties in the main tank and causing the poor pe that I have. As you can see in the picture the caulerpa still grows but alot of bubbles in a fair amount of them. Though there appears to be red cyno algea in the fuge I've had this for some time now. It appears that the caulerpa is just offgasing or something exept this also kills (causes to mush) the caulerpa that is covered in bubbles.
Adding MM in the fuge stabilized things back then, I'm wondering if I should
1) take all the caulerpa out and just rely on the chaeto
2) take caulerpa and mm out
3) Don't do nothing at all and keep sucking the bubble trapped caulerpa every water change.
Tank is BB all sps. I run carbon passively and skim. Corals are looking ok but feel something may be holding them back.
What do you think?.
Sorry for the crappy picture.
