Caulerpa Prolifera Question

I'm curious about this particular type of Caulerpa. I read somewhere that all of a sudden this type of Caulerpa will "spawn" and then die off completely. I think that is what happend in my refugium. I had quite a big mass of Prolifera growing in my refuge, speading around, about 3 days ago it all started turning white. And now its just a yellow mass of dying plant material. I did remove quite a few of my fish to quarantine a couple of days ago to treat them for ich. Could that be the culprit? Perhaps now that there are far less fish in my system the Caulerpa isnt getting enough nutrients. However i still have another type of caulerpa growing in the refugium that seems to be doing fine. So im not sure. Does anyone know anything about this?

all caulerpa and most other macro algae have the potential to
go 'sexual'. it's possible that removing the fish (lowering the
food supply) had something to do with it. to much macro in a tight
space can also trigger it (not enough light/nutrients). i'd skim like
crazy and add some carbon to help pull out all the gunk.
