Never Quit!!
rite noe i am using chaeto on my fuge but wondering about caulerpa wat are some diffrences does one work better than the other .......any one tried both ...?any results i should now? lol.......comments ........

Although caulerpa migh grow faster than chaeto there is less risk with chaeto. Caulerpa can turn into a nuisance if it passes to the main aquarium and has a tendency to go sexual releasing enough spores to cause a potential tank crash.

Well i have used caulerpa in the past and yes it grows faster than chaeto but then no matter what you do about lighting it for 24/7 when it goes sexual you cant do nothing now im using chaeto and i dont have to worry about it going sexual and it grows fairly quickly it does the job excelent without the worry of crashing my tank.

IME the worries about Caulerpa going sexual are just that, worries.

I just yanked a 6"x4" patch of C. sertularoides fa. farlowii that had gone clear from my 29G tank.....which is similar to experiences I've had in the past. Nothing in the tank showed any negative responses.

Unless your tank is completely overrun by Caulerpa that sporulates, I don't think it's a problem.

I've had more problems with Chaeto overgrowing my 'fuge, fragging itself, ending up in the tank and annoying the corals. The only real benefit (it's a big benefit!) I see to Chaeto is that mini-brittle stars, Stomatella, and pods seem to love it.

I use a mix in my Fuge. I have 3 types of green Caulerpa, 2 reds, Cheato, and Maidens Hair. I don't know if it works better but it looks nice and is a great food source.

chaeto all the way, i'm one of the unlucky ones that had caulerpa go sexual on me and it was a big mess. it's rediculous to have to run your lighting 24/7 just for algae.............. I run my lighting for my chaeto opposite the display tank to help keep pH more stable. I do not believe the caulerpa grew any faster at all then my chaeto and i'll definitely never go back to caulerpa.

I now have a mix of many different types, since I set up my buddies tank. I use to only have cheato but I really dont like looking at it and it is a filter trap. I am going to start harvesting more of it than the grape calupera and keep more of the others.

It would save me about $1.00 per month if I did not run 24/7 so I will continue to do so. It is more of a headache to remember to turn it off in the morning. I ran 24/7 when I had the brillo pad as well

Hello,

I wanted to put the chaeto algae in a holding container in my main tank for reduction of nitrates. I have no refugium. Is this a possibility? I have fish and one small sps. I have made a container to put macro and maybe a mangrove or two. Not getting more sps or coral. It came with the anenome.

Thanks,
Allfish
