Caveman build Red Sea Max 130D

Track Rat

New member
Well I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered the 130d. I'm really excited to get this. I currently have a 14 gallon Biocube and some years ago I had a put together 29 gallon. I will be using this thread to keep track of my MAX's progress. While I wait I will be clearing out a spot for it and start filling buckets with RO/DI water. I live on the third floor of an apartment and my filter system only get 40 psi. It takes forever to make water.

I'm still waiting for my tank to be delivered, but I've bought some goodies to help pass the time.

40 pound bag of carib sea reef grade sand. Although part of me wishes I bought fiji pink for the ever so slightly finer substrate.
40 pounds of Pukani base rock from BRS. I know this is way more than I need but it will give me more material and choices for aquscaping.
Coral propagation tool kit and plugs. I will be turning my 14 gallon biocube into a mini frag tank.
A bucket of coral pro salt.

As soon as my tank arrives I'll have enerything ready to get it setup, I cant wait!

It is an awesome set up. I like everything so far and I am a beginner at this but it is a really nice kit. The only thing I will be changing in a few months is the protein skimmer just because it seems a little chincy. But good luck with it I will be staying tuned to this thread and see what you do with it.

Congrats! I just moved a bc29 to a RSM130D and so far I'm very happy. Don't be bummed about that sand, I think the fine stuff blows around too much. Especially if you end up putting something like a MP10 in there later on.

I'll tag along and good luck!

That's one thing I regret doing was buying fine grain sand to put in the tank. Just on the stock circulation pumps(all I have) it blows around a little bit until I added some more rock in but if I add a MP10 down the road I know it's going to be a sandstorm going on in my tank.

It's here!

Now I'm just waiting for more ro/di , tank is about 2/3 full right now.

I think I made a mistake buying the pukani base rock. So what I'm going to do is get 20 pounds of fiji live rock and do a combo of the two. I like the biodiversity that live rock offers and I don't think I will be satisfied with only base rock.

There's a few companies out there that I have seen that sell 20-40 pounds of Fiji rock designed for us with nano aquariums.

Awesome, Merry Christmas to you!

Your stand is a bit different then mine from looking at just the door. I hope that means yours was less of a PIA to assemble then mine because that sucked!

They definitely made the stand a little more easy to put together. Its a lot sturdier then i thought it was going to be...Overall i was impressed with what i have recieved.
