Okay, so I'm leaving in the brace then lol. I guess I'll be getting a 4th Kessil. Time to bribe the wife again. Maybe 100 lbs. of chocolate this time. I'm not so much worried about it melting. I'm more worried about it becoming brittle and cracking.

this was my solution as well, except with AI Vegas, not Kessils.

i have a 150 with a very large, and thick, center brace that is going to be set up soon. i was originally planning on using 3 lights, and centering the middle one, running the parallel with the tank.

however after thinking about it more, and looking at the darker spots in the corners of my 75G with two Vegas over it, i am opting for 4 Vegas over the 150, mounted perpendicular to the tank.

also, i can't recommend this enough: coach purses.

a coach purse got me through the initial purchase of my LEDs with no questions asked. Tiffany charm bracelets also work wonders too. you can get the bracelet, then buy a charm here and there as you need to.

When the black ABS is installed at the factory, there is a tension on the cross brace. This tension pulls the back and the front panels together. Once the brace is cut, there is no more tension. When an acrylic brace is installed, how do you restore this tension? If there is no tension, there is no support, right?

If it were me, I'd start with 3, if I didn't like it, then get a 4th. It wont slow you down on your tank build if you are adding something for aesthetics, as it doesn't affect your corals. I've never minded the center brace in my tanks. I don't even notice it. However, I've also never tried an LED right in the middle of it.

worse than no tension, the acrylic brace will actually expand in the heat and humidity.

Here is my tank with 3 Kessil A160's. My tank has a center brace and you can't really see a shadow once you have surface agitation.
