cateyes, Thats a conspiculatus angel. Beautyful reef safe angel but the cost anywhere from a grand to 25 hundred.

well, guess i won't be getting one of those!!! it is a beautiful fish!!

Are coral beautys more reef reliable than a potters angel? I really like the potters, but i want it to be safe with clams and most corals
thanks

all pygmy angels nip corals. no matter what. people say they're reef safe because they have so many corals that no damage is done. But the truth is, pygmy angels will always nip, that is their nature, but not to eat the tissue or polyps, but to get at any algae or what they think is algae. My flame angel tends to go after the "feelers" on nassarius vibex thinking it's food.

They will all nip, but if you have enough corals, they won't do damage on a single one, but a tiny bit on each but not enough to kill each coral. Just might not as much polyp extension as w/o. But still OK.

IMO they are NOT reef safe, but are NOT reef killers.

go for a Genicanthus angelfish. They are pure planktivores and won't nip anything.

I like the swallow tail angel, which is a Genicanthus angel. Could i keep this fish in the 65? Any info or pics ?
thanks

the only issue with genicanthus is that they like to eat...a lot....and that can be relatively tough in a smaller tank only in that food in=poop out

Out of the dmall angels supposely the Coral beauty or the Flame angel suppose to be the least threat to corals. But with any angel you are still taking a chance. He might be a good citzen for a good year or two and then decide there are tasty treats in the tank after all. And clam mantels one of the things they liek to nip at if they turn on your corals.

I still think you should go for one of the fairy wrasse since tsome of them have really nice color patterns.

I a pic of my clown fairy I have in my tank now

Get a Caribbean longnose Butterfly. Not the prettiest color, but cool shape and good personality. Stay small, pretty hardy, not too expensive, reef safe.

Thats also a 100 dollar fish :D ALthough i was going to get one but when i ask a LFS to see how much they get for and thier supplier said it was out of season, can that be?

do all Genicanthus angels make too much mess for my tank, or are some (swallowtail, bellus...etc) better for my smaller tank?

Also what about a sunburst anthias? Could i only have 1? and are they safe with other anthias (bartlettes or disar)?

Koden, I dont agree with the "ALL pygmy angel will nip" there are some who will never do, the point is that we dont really have a way to know who will and who wont.

I dont also agree with the "but not to eat tissue and polyps" on some occasions I have seen pygmys demolish corals or going after clams mantles like if it was food.

The bottom line is that if you put a pymy in a reef tank is like playing a roullette , but some species have better chances of "winning" , FME C.multicolor or C.argi, while other species have better chances of "losing" like C.flavissima .

Back to the topic , if you have a swimming space in that 65G, I'd try a fairy wrasse , othewise, somebody already said Marine Betta is a show fish , especially when it get used to the tank and start swimming outside begging for food.

If you did get a Genicanthus angel I would stick to the smallest species because they need as much space to swim as possible.

As for a regal, needing a much larger tank than 65g.; it's not exactly true. Of course with hard-to-keep fish bigger is better, but a 75g is all you need to succesfully house a regal. But most regals are not bold fish.

Flasher wrasses might be intimidated by your anthias, but they could work.
Fairies are one of my favorite types of fish and they would work fine.

A sunburst would work, but they aren't known for being bold. They are cave-dwellers like regals.
I know that this is a short reply, but I have to run. Good Luck!!

Just my 2 cents, I wouldn't take a chance with ANY fish that I was not 100% sure it would not pick my coral. I just got done completely tearing down my tank to catch an angel fish that was a relatively safe bet. The first 2 days were great and then he started tearing into my coral, he picked at my brain, kenya tree, devils hand leather, green star polyps. So he had a varied taste, i hads to take all but 4 rocks out of my tank to catch it. So just play it safe.

Check out some of the fairy wrasses. Spend a lot of time out front and active and the colors are awesome. Radiant wrasse is a personal fave.

Terence Trent - last name D'Arby by any chance?

Sorry...back to your regularly scheduled programming.
