Centropyge Aurantia

Hi RC,

My LFS just got a Centropyge Aurantia, my absolut favorit of the dwarf angels.
I recently downgraded to Red Sea Reefer 170, could i add this fish to my tank ?

I have a juvenile Z. Flavescens, 4 Chromis virdis and 2 Juvenile P. Epigramma atm.

Corals = LPS/Zoa :beer:

A few things to check into and think about. First of all how many gallons is the tank? You need a minimum of 55 gals for this fish per LA. It's also a very difficult fish to keep from what I've read on them and they do have the tendency to nip at corals like most other angelfish. They may be hard to get eating so make sure it's eating at the LFS before you buy it. They do like to eat sponges so some angelfish foods that contain sponge might be helpful.

It's a beautiful fish that's for sure. Here is the link from LA on them and of course the picture :D

I think you will be fine in the reefer 170. These are a very secretive fish, so a smaller tank will allow for easier observation. They are a big time coral nipper. Every specimen I have come across in a reef(about a half dozen) nipped at coral.

I think I got lucky with mine. I've had mine for almost 4 years. He ate some LPS at first, but I was so happy he was eating, I bought cheap LPS coral for him. All of a sudden, he started eating pellets and hasn't touched coral in about 3.5 years. He is always out as well.

Thanks for all the answers,
My LFS got it last month i'm going there tomorrow and see if it eats.
i knew it was one of the harder Dwarf angels, but it's so beautiful and if it eat i'm gonna buy it for sure..
Costs 180$ so i need to be 100%
Which is why i asked here aswell

I bought a pair from LADD at $300 and that included shipping. they were eating the next day and are still doing great. $180 for one seems expensive?

I live in Denmark, and it's really rare in stores - first time i've ever seen one and i've been in the hobby for 3 years..

so the price fits if you ask me :)

It's ok for me to pay 180$ for a fish no one else in the country has :p
atleast to my knowledge

So i bought the C. Aurantia, and it's such a beautiful fish..
It eats pellets and artemia @ day 1.
Haven't eaten corals (yet)
It's very secretive, but it's starting to come more out from the rocks by now ..

I've been thinking about adding another, is there any risk in doing this ?
Or adding a C. Loricula - or should i just keep this one by it self ??

Mine has started biting my Lobophylia and showing big interest in my aussi scolymia ..

Should i remove the fish, or wait it out, maybe remove the coral for some time ??

How long did it take, before he stopped eating LPS ??

I have had a C. aurantia for more than 3 years. It cost me 100-120 euros, I don't remember well. It's a very shy fish that spends most of the time hidden in the rock structure. In my case that is also caused by two C. loricula that don't like very much the aurantia swimming in open space.

I keep many SPS, tridacnas, euphyllias and anemones and never has caused the least problem to any of them.

I wish I could see the fish more often but it's so beautiful that just a glance from time to time is rewarding.
