Centropyge colini

Just curious if anyone has had any luck with the Centropyge colini RVS Fishworld in the Phillipines have been collecting? They pride themselves as being all net caught. Mine has been happily swimming around my reef for 2 weeks but seems uninterested in all the usual fare (mysis, LRS, roe...). Turned the temp down to 76 from 79 just in case heat was a factor. Thinking about trying some live brine if I can find it.

Hi there,

I had a true pair caught by Cairns Marine in the coral sea. The big male was in captivity just over two years, and the smaller but tenacious female for 20 months.

If yours has been handled well and arrived in good condition, it may still take some time to learn to eat aquarium food. FWIW the young female was quarantined with Ventralis anthias, whom she instantly recognised and would boss around. After about a fortnight she learned to eat live brine, and frozen food about a month later.

The male, OTOH, was large and very stubborn. He subsisted on various corals eg trachyphyllia, which I was happy to give him rather than see him starve. It took a few months for him to learn to eat live brine, occasional live blackworms. It was only much later another fish introduced him to nori and other algae, and various frozen mixes, which both fish eventually ate with gusto. To sum up, it took a long time to acclimate them to captive conditions, but it was well worth the effort IMO and most of their tank mates were relatively passive fish. They were my favourite pygmy angels and I still miss them.

Good luck with yours - they're a very personable and intriguing fish.

PS yes, the male in particular didn't like temperatures above 25C. YMMV

I also have Cairns Marine collected Colini,

He was in great shape when I received him and ate pretty much everything offered straight away. I have had him for nearly 2 years now. I have found that he likes to stay in the caves/ ledges more and very rarely is seen above the reef/ rocks. Here is a pic of mine:

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. Seems like mine is more like suta4242's. It seems healthy - hopefully it will take some live brine today.

These are finicky fish regardless of where they are caught. It will take time. Keep pumping food in there and he'll learn once he realizes everyone else is doing it

Well, after three weeks of refusing all food, on a whim, I got some more live brine. Out of nowhere the C. colini started picking at a few. Three days later it is eating everything. Go figure...

Great to hear! They are beautiful fish. Good luck!

That's fantastic!! Pls post some more videos or pictures. It's rare to see or even hear about people's exp with this fish.
