Anyone keep one with success? They classify it along with Regals as impossible to keep.

Tagging along. Also interested in these. One angel I haven't kept. I've heard they are worse than regals. I know "Rare Angels" kept a venustus/mutlibarred hybrid, but I think he had problems feeding it.

I wanted to buy one of these tank raised, but they sold out.

I just noticed today that phishy has a male interruptus..*sigh* If only I had 750.00 to toss around. I figured that if it was a fish that could be kept I would have seen a few...what a shame. It's a beauty. Thanks for that link...maybe their captive raised is the answer!

I have been trying to locate a small school of these for some time.RCT bred them, but sold off all their stock and won't be breeding any more.LiveAqaria sometimes has them,if you are looking for a single individual.

They can be kept. Must make sure that they are eating befor you take home.

On a side note I bought one of the interruptus that phishy has. I will be getting her(i think it is a her) in a few weeks.

What makes you confident that they can be kept? So far they don't sound like they have a good track record from what I have read...edema, refusal to eat .:(
Wow..you are lucky getting the interruptus. Good luck with her...and be sure to post pics!;)

I have always been told that they can be kept, just make sure he is eating first befor you take him home. I really do thing it is possible. Regals are hard to keep, but if they are eating when you buy them they are fine. jmo

waterfaller1-Do you have some articles you can refer me to?I would like to read more on this.

There is a great thread on these fish at reefs.org. Couldn't get the link to work, but do a search on multibarred angel.

Come on waterfaller who says that!? :D I've kept one of these now for over a year with only my standard methods of transitioning over to captive care. While these are not impossible obviously, they are very similar in regals I believe as to why they are tough to adjust to captivity... I have a trio of regals and they've been my favorite fish for years... I've seen them come in to distributors and they do not come in looking well as is the case with Pacific regals... a combination of poor handling and a long transit time from ocean to home possibly. The specimen I have came in looking good and at least showing an interest in food so I took him home. As I've done with my regals, moorish idol, and similar things I isolated him alone in an established system with dim lighting and plenty of rock cover to feed on. I concentrated on feeding him anything to get into his stomach at first and keeping him calm as I do with other tough species... but quite honestly this guy was much easier than some regals...

Not too much info as I've only dealt with this one specimen but it shows that there's hope... he's adapted as well as any other dwarf angel and is beautiful...

Here's an old shot of him when I first got him from a behind the scenes tank I still have him in... he's getting a once over from a cleaner... sorry for the poor quality and the dirty glass... I'll get an updated pic of him and post... I'm also interested in other experiences with this fish...

On a side note I visited with Frank Baensch of RCT at his facility and house last year while in Hawaii... I saw the pair of multifasciatus he had before they were available on his site... I immediately looked at him and said... "practice?"... He chuckled and agreed... While he's got some unbelievable things going on at RCT it's no secret he'd love to eventually offer that elusive other member of the Paracentropyge genus (hint: not venustus)... you angelfish nuts know what I'm talking about...

Here's a shot from his house overlooking Diamondhead on Oahu... what an inspiring and pioneering guy living a dream life... it's great to know captive breeding is not only being done, but being done with such rare and once thought impossible species... By the way... he's the tall German and I'm the little Sicilian:D

Well Johnny you are a rare breed as well. You are one of the pioneers in KEEPING fish healthy..so there is always hope for those of us who try to emulate you.;)
This is really funny..because for some reason every fish that really interests me..you have already kept with success.:D
First it was the Tomini tang..then the Tiger goby, then the Regal angel{which I have to wait for because I do not have an appropriate tank for one} and now this fish. I am giving up my australian tuskfish for the same reason..and I just want one fish that says *WOW*! Are you familiar with Phishy? It has come to my attention that this may be someone who makes sure the fish are eating before they leave his facility..which is a real plus. On a side note..I do seem to be having success keeping some odd small fish..such as African bluestripe pipefish, Trimma Gobies. My newest small additions are a female dragonfaced pipe..and I finally got a healthy Urchin clingfish...a really interesting little fish. I am also having success with alveopora, and some goniopora species.{fingers crossed there}
Thank you so much for the encouragement..and information.
Keep in touch.:)

I've ordered from Serdar a few times although it was only corals. He is one of the few people that truly acclimates and verifies feeding... There are many well known retailers that say this but in my opinion it's just BS, with them just hunting at different wholesalers... Shipping a feeding regal angel is claimed by many places but usually requires much more effort than these businesses want to or do put in...

Thanks for the compliment... you'd go nuts at Frank's facility... fish only seen in books are in front of you in spawning pairs... On a side note tominis are on sale until Friday for $59.99 at Liveaquaria... where I got mine years ago...:)

waterfaller1-
I recently received my CBB from Phishy. He held it for about 4 weeks to make sure it was healthy and eating before shipping it to me.I have also been purchasing corals from him over the last 4 years.Everything he ships(and you won't believe his packing method)is top notch.

Your razor will be dull by the time you cut through all the packaging in the boxes he ships!:D
