Ceramic bearing does not fit wet frame

Small problem. I just received magnet upgrades, goal was to upgrade original wet side magnets and put in new ceramic bearings and washers. Appears the original wet frame's were maufactured differently as the new ceramic bearing do not fit(totally different). With the new magnet, thin spacer and old ceramic bearing I cannot get the wetside to spin, it appears it it too thick for the wet frames and there is rubbing. The pin spacer was bought to resolve another issue where the dry side would not grab the wet side through the glass, the pin spacer was remover(and lost) but this fix did not last long, I bought the new pin spacer to help the dry side "stick" but apparently the magnet strength has "waned" over time. Do I now have to purchase additional part's(wet frame's). If I reinstall the original magnet, it works wiyhout a problem. S/N's 06091055 and 07011467

Cheers,

This is the type of a problem that may be best delt with by seeing the pump in person. However, if I had to guess I believe you likely have an older ceramic bearing with out grooves and new wet frame with small teeth in the portion where the bearing sits. You will most likely need a new bearing with grooves in order to fit this frame.

Please email service@ecotechmarine.com and we'll address your problem right away.

Yeah...kinda hard to picture, : ) and didn't help to cram in more than one issue(could be related). Here are some pics to help but the old style bearing does not sit flush and is most likely contriburing to the problem.

Hi Tim,

I did email pic's to the service email, haven't heard back yet. After taking a couple of the vortechs apart, looks like 2 have wet frames that use a insert so that a different ceramic bearing can be used. The propeller shafts are also different and made to work with the "old school" bearing. I'll shut up and attach the pic now.

Cheers,

I have not heard anything back on this, does that mean I should just but 2 new style wet sides and be done with it?? I would also like to know what I need to do to resolve the issue with a dry side that has lost it's magnet strength, can I swap an old wet side magnet out with the weak dry side magnet. I really need to get the last two pumps back online.

Hi Bimmerzs-

You have a very old style of bearing and drive shaft. You will require a new drive shaft (MP105) and wet frame. The bearing with the slot in it will fit the new frame. I will see to it that your email is responded to.

seems like you're going to need new wet frames and drive shafts, your ceramic bearing should fit in the wetframe. the magnet that is giving you trouble, is that one of the new gen2 plastic coated magnets? or is it the old style?
you need 2 wetframes and 2 drive shafts correct?

Hi,
Please enlighten me here...am I waiting on something or wishfully thinking. Am I expected to spend additional cash on the "newer style" wet frame's and drive shaft's or is there a package in the mail. Would hate to purchase this stuff and then also have replacements from ya'll show up. Concerning the magnet issue, since I couldn't get a repair quote and the pump was out of warrantee anyway, I swapped the magnets and got that pump back on-line...now have 2 out of 4 VT's running again. Would be nice to see a gesture on ya'll's part and take care of my problem on the other two.
:D

Cheers,

Is it possible for ya'll to give me an update on this, it would be nice to get some type of response so I know which way to go to get my remaining pumps back on-line.

Cheers,

Hi bimmerzs-

As of the 4th of this month we responded to your inquiry requesting that you send your pump in to us so that we can evaluate it. Since then we have not heard back from you. Please send your pump in at your earliest convenience so that we can ensure that it is repaired properly and as quickly as possible.

We recognize that you have had some issues with this pump in the past and assure you that we will take good care of you.

Tim,

If you read my last email and above response you will see that the issue I had with the pump magnet has been resolved and is no longer an issue. The outstanding issue with my two remaining pumps is related to having old style wet frames and driveshafts. The old style wet frames do not seem to be compatable with the new magnet upgrades. I either have to spend additional money on new wet frames and drive shafts for these two pumps or ya'll could graciously replace them out of the goodness of your hearts. : ) Either way please let me know so I get my pumps back online .

Cheers,

I am pretty much fed up with this...I have been corresponding with Steve, we communicated exactly what pieces were needed and I sent him the link to this post so that he could see the pic's(not sure why he couldn't look at them himself or get Tim to forward them) Got in parts today and was sooo happy right up until I opened the package and only see (2) wet frames and no drive shafts. :( If you guy's were gonna jack me around you could have just told me to pack sand and go buy more parts, at least I would not have wasted over a month out of my life giving ya'll the benefit f the doubt. I now really regret being an early adopter of this product, wish I would have spent my money elsewhere. To top off everything, another one of my new WWD's has failed. I really am thinking about buying what I need, get these running and then sell them so I can buy the new Tunze's.... at least they won't break have issues and will even work with my ACIIIPro. I'm am so freakin' p***ed.

bimmerzs-

Per Steve's voicemail and email to you from this morning, we have sent your replacement drive shafts out to you on us via expedited mail. We apologize for having made this error and not having shipped them with your last order. Per your post above, please realize this was not personal, it was a simple mistake.

We also were hoping to speak with you today so that we could take care of the driver related issue at the same time but did not want to lose a day on the drive shafts. Before shipping the driver we wanted to do a bit of trouble shooting in order to trace the problem to the driver and not some other source.

-Tim

Thank ya'll for being on top of this, hopefully the driveshaft's will arrive soon. I played around with the driver again last night and it reset. With the pump connected I could not get it to reset for some reason, I never tried to reset it after disconnecting the pump until last night. Could be coincidence but ths happened within day's of enabling the pump disconnect feature which I did followed the procudure and had them seperated etc. The last driver also followed a similar episode and after disconnectng the pump, it would reset, unfortnatedly it later "went out" and ultimatedly had to be replaced by ya'll. Thanks again for taking care of this issue, I'm not quite as mad now. ;)

Cheers,

Drive shafts arrived today, all upgraded to new magnet's etc and up and running. One pump however is making a "growling" type of noise in pulse/long pulse mode. Ever noticed this before now with the old style drivers...it is quite loud, I took it apart and rechecked everything and all looks ok. What could be the cause of this? I can make a new thread is needed. lmk

Cheers,
