Hi, I was just given a free 264 watt compact fluorescent fixture, and I figure its a good idea to change the bulbs. Ive never used any thing but T5's and MH, so Im wondering if its better to get these dual output bulbs, that are 10000ºK/Actinic 460nm, or if i should just get two daylight bulbs, and two actinic. what do you guys think?

when I ran those lights over my 46 gal. I got 2- day/actinic bulbs and 1 day bulb just for more of the blue look however the day bulbs will give you the best par.

It depends on the lighting control you have.

If you have two controls, ie, if you can run two bulbs independent from the other two, I would suggest getting two full daylight and two full actinics.

That way, you will be able to give the tank different looks - such as running the actinics all by themselves at night time, etc.

I had a Custom Sealife fixture - 4 x 96 watt compact fluorescents - it worked great and I could keep just about anything but SPS in the tank. That unit had two controls so I could control the two blue separate from the two white.
