Chaeto Dying

i just built a refugium out of a rubbermaid tub and it has pretty low flow and lights on 24/7. from what ive learned, with chaeto it doesnt matter if you have high or low flow. the lighting is the smae as melevs. there are plenty of nutrients to consume so im not sure what to do to make it grow.

From what I have read you don't want to keep chaeto on 24/7 lighting. It does best with 6-8 hours rest. Mine took a few months to get going. Now it grows like a weed.

I would say that's it's hurting anything if you more than that. Mine goes for 16 to 18 hours a day and I have an amazing growth.

i agree, unless you would be growing caulerpa in your fuge and are afriad of it going sexual you wouldnt need your light on 24/7, all fuge plants will grow better with a night time period.

I moved from a 75 into a 120 with an entirly new system in August, my chato was groing like crazy before the move. I only really started growing well over the last two months or less.

Give it time. I like an 8 hour night period as well. JMO.

Speaking of growing Chaeto in a fuge.....Im getting ready to start up my system here in a couple weeks, my question is, how can I get this stuff? Can I just get it from my LFS and slap it in my fuge? Ive got Melev's light, Im just a little confused on how to start it?......

yea you can buy it from the LFS or buy a big Refugium start up pack off ebay, some seelers sell 3-4 different types of macro algae, and some sell live mysid shrimp and mini stars. those are nice to add to your fuge to kick start it.

I just looked this up on Ebay and saw a couple people selling chaeto.....but Ive got one more question.....when I do decide to buy the chaeto, when should I intrduce it to the refugium? Should I add it during the initial cycling process or wait till it the aquarium is fully cycled?
