Hi,
About 6 months ago I put a ball of chaeto in my sump to help with nutrient export. It's about the size of a baseball and hasn't grown the entire time. It looks healthy. Nice and green but just won't grow. I know I have nutrients in the water because I've got hair algae in the sump and in the main tank. Any suggestions for getting this stuff to grow? I've heard wonderful things about using it in your sump but so far, I'm pretty unimpressed.
Tank info:
75 Gallon reef tank with 30 gallon sump.
Approx. 80 lbs live rock. 3 inch sand bed
Nitrates have been around 2.5
Phosphates test 0
All other parameters are normal.
The sump has about 500 gallons/hr through it and is lit by a 65watt PC bulb about 10 inches off the water surface (6500K I believe). It is lit 24x7. No sand or live rock in the sump.
Thanks,
Andy
