Ok....simple question.......How is the "ch" in the word "chaeto" pronounced?.....I've heard chaeto pronounced with a "k" and others with the "ch" like in the word "cheetah"......I've tried checking dictionary.com and had no luck.

Thanks greenbean......I didn't think anyone was going to respond...I have heard fellow reefers pronounce it both ways but I've always pronounced it like "kayto." I even heard a guy call it "cheeto.".....Thanks again for the clarification.....BTW...Nice avatar.

The same rule applies to the word nudibranch.

Its not pronounced Noody-Branch? :(

It's noody-brank?

I don't know anyone who pronounces it like that

Oh well, guess I'm not as smart as I thought I was :p

weird names, shouldnt there be a common name like speghetti plant or just sea slug? and how do you prnounce Pseudochromis, im guessing pe-sue-dok-chromis?

I always thought it was key-toe-morph-a. The "chaet" in many biology terms is keet (like in polychaete). But ive been told over and over that its kay-toe. who know...oh well

Exactly, who knows? I'm guessing that because it's what I've been taught in Latin (but then again I'm not an extraordinary Latin student). Maybe the "e" on the end of "polychaete" has somthing to do with it...I wonder.

I'm pretty sure it's keeto, but some of my professors pronounce plant names slightly different, and people who took latin in highschool pronounce it differently still. So, meh, I just say words I don't know how to pronounce 3 different ways right in row to cover the odds, lol.
