Chaeto strings in display?

I keep getting stiff single-strand pieces of algae that are implanted in the rock in the main display, takes a pinch real close to the base to remove it.
I've left it for up to a week, the single strand will grow like 2 feet in that time.
Is this chaeto planting itself in my main display (there's some in my fuge with red gracilaria), and if so how could I prevent it? Would this be from pieces floating into the display, hooking on a rock, and taking off from there? It's not a nuisance, but the strings get pretty long pretty quickly. Right now, there's about three of these strands growing at various lengths in various spots.
Thanks.

LOL......I just noticed the same thing in my tank this past weekend. I've got a bunch of chaeto in fuge area and figured a piece rooted in my rock in the main tank.

You will have to improve the separation between your fuge and return pump. More baffles, slower water flow, sponge filter at return pump intake will help.

ya think it's chaeto taking root in the main tank then?
I did not expect this result
