Chaeto vs hair algae or something else?

I recently added a ball of chaeto to my refugium, and it is slowly turning brown, however last night I noticed what I believe is hair algae growing from the points of my snail shells. If hair algae is growing, shouldn't the chaeto also?

Is it possible what s growing off the back of my snail shells is not hair algae? They are pretty long fibers (up to an inch or more) growing straight off the tip of snail shells.

What Kelvin rating is your light? 6500k or more should make the chaeto grow.

Looks like I only have 5000k, thought that was enough, but I'll look into 6500k bulbs.

Any recommendations on treatment for hair algae?
