chaeto

I'm still collecting all the pieces/parts for my sump. One of the last things I need to find is some Chaeto. Would anyone happen to be ready to clean out some Chaeto? Is there a source of this macroalgae anywhere around Akron?

I figure I'll be gluing in my bubble trap baffles tonight and finishing this project over the weekend. I have a pump coming tomorrow.

One final question: Do I need live sand in the refugium section of my sump with the chaeto? Rock?

Green "Spaghetti algae" Chaetomorpha

thanks.

I'm guessing Chaeto is sort of tough to find. Anyone have another suggestion for a good macro algae? I hear calurpa can go sexual and release a bunch of crap in your tank.

Chaeto is pretty easy. Both Salty Critter and Aquatic Technology have baseketball sized clumps of it. Mine is still too small to farm.

I say no to the sand in your fuge. It can trap detrius and, even if a DSB, isn't a large enough environment to be self contained. But people do add it.

Yes to rock though. Rubble will give your pods a place to hang out and gives extra filtration.

Hey thanks Mike. Anyone else have any Chaeto sources closer to Akron? I'm not opposed to paying someone for a few handfulls...

Just an fyi for anyone who might be interested in chaeto. It's only 3 bucks for a softball size bag with critters (pods) on Ebay. I bought 3 of them and it was only 14.50 with shipping from Columbus.

Too late :) It'll be shipped to my door early next week. Thanks alot for the offer. I'm plumbing in my sump this weekend. Never did it before. I guess all I need to do is start the siphon on the overflow box and plug in the pump. I'll adjust the ball valve on the pump output so the return is a tad slower than the gravity fed overflow can handle. Any one have more suggestions?
