Anyone out there have experience with the tear drop butterfly (chaetodon unimaculatus)?

Thinking of getting one for a 300 gallon fowlr.

I haven't kept this species, but make sure you get one from a reputable vendor. They have delicate mouths & are prone to getting them damaged in shipping. Once that happens they're history.

If it's collected from Indonesia your going to have to worry about it being cyanide caught which is going to make it more difficult to aquire a healthy one.

You'll need to QT the fish & treat accordingly if something shows up. Most BF's are disease magnets early on & also need time to learn to feed.

What else is in this tank? They won't do well with aggressive fish.

thanks for the information. There won't be anything particularly aggressive in the tank. I only buy fish from reputable sources.

not the worst to aclimate to prep foods but usually needs flukes treatment. if you can find yellow form indic ocean would much more rewarding experience. robust species once adapted . I had one few years ago for 5 years and pretty agressive with other butt like racoon and auriga in mixed buterfly tank.

not a terribly difficult fish.

the full yellow indian ocean ones are nicer.

these fishes are very destructive in reef tanks as can be seen by their large pig like snout. but in a FOWLR it's no problem.
