Chalice becoming "tight"?

So I got a Chalice frag 3 weeks ago and placed in low light for the most part. I have a single XR15W G4 + 2T5s so I don't think I have too strong of a light anyways.

First week it was doing good, then it has started to be "less puffy" and become "tight" not sure how to describe it. It's not bleached but it's color has transformed from dark blue to greenish. It's skin is like stretched to the skeleton like it's tissue has dried up.

For now, I moved it to a more shadier place. My water params are normally on spot with 8DKH, 440 CA and 1350 Mg. Salinity is around 1.026.

All other corals are doing good.

yeah i know what you mean, this has happened to me before. I am not really sure why, but with an orange chalice that I had it was because of flow (too much) however I have had a golden eye that did that for an unknown reason, but it is fine now.

Now I can see the skeleton. My DKH had gone down to 7+ from 8+ so I increased it. I think Chalices need higher DKH.

Yes they prefer higher alkalinity. I have one that always gets tight just before water changes, after a water change he puffs back up. I use him as my tank barometer.

Are you not dosing ALK between water changes? I am due for a water change for sure but I got up ALK to 9.6 so will wait for a couple of days.

I dose alkalinity everyday manually but like I said he's my water quality barometer. He starts to shrink and I know it's time for a water change. I usually change water every other week but sometimes I stretch it another week when life takes over. I just look at that chalice when I stretch out my water changes to make sure everything is still ok.

tc2007, go easy with your alkalinity adjustments. Keeping alk in range and stable is one of the most important tasks with reef keeping. Make alk adjustments gradually.
