Chalice care thread

I have a 30 cube on my desk at work with several chalice frags. All my chalices at home go crazy after lites out and thats when I feed at home. But I leave work at 5 with tank lite out, but room lites on. I am thinking of a way to suspend froz food above tank so it will thaw and drop in several hours later when tank is dark and feeding tentacles are out....Maybe tie cube with dental floss????? Open to suggestions. Thanks!

Set up a light timer and set the schedule so the lights are off for the first hour or so after you get into work. Since they will most likely be open when you come into the office, you can just feed them at that time.

I got some today

tentacle was out so thought I'd drop some mysis in there

I got a chalice from my lfs , when it came into the store it was reddish orange with yellow eyes. The eyes turned the same color as the rest of the chalice after a few weeks in the store tank. I belive its a enchin chalice, are there any tips for getting the yellow to come back to the eyes or when its gone is that it?

Great thread.........I do have a question though. I was fighting bryopsis, and got my Magnesium to high, which resulted in the loss of ALL eyes on my mother colony and frag of Cleveland Cavs "red with yellow eyes". Both looked like hell for about a week, but after a week or so the color returned "although faded and darker" and the flesh looked healthier. Mind you neither are showing eyes yet, but there are now hints of green creeping into the flesh, and still no eyes. Do you think the eyes will come back, and the frags will make it? Or are the completely doomed.

Thoughts?

***edit*** and just noticed how old this thread was. Sorry for digging up such a old thread

1 question << alkalinity level must be at ???? my cube its in 9 dkh an i do water changes weekly my alk swings about 1.0ppm, from 9dkh to 8 dkh its because its overstock and corals contsumpsion,,, this swing afects chalices??????????

That's not really a swing. Anything above 6 and below 13 seems to be ok. They do seem to like higher magnesium though.

I recently got an alien eye chalice that I won at a swap. I think it started to bleach under the LEDs on my pro nano. I took it out and put it in my 120 where the LEDs are dimmable so hopefully he pulls thru.

Since i switched over to radions and kessil i have had to be very careful with my chalices. Most dont like the higher light and are kept at the bottom of the tank. An exception is the pink boobies it loves the light

I have had a watermelon chalice frag since September, so 8 months now and I have never seen any feeding tentacles. It has kept its color and has grown probaly 3/16 of an inch. I have tried placing mysis directly on top of it with all the pumps off and it never takes it. My tank is all SPS besides the chalice and a couple acans, the acans always have their feeding tentacles out no matter what time of the day. I have the chalice in a low flow area on the bottom of my rock structure, lighting is AI Sol Nano. Any ideas what I should do to get this thing growing and eating?
