Chalice question

Hello everyone,
Picked up a chalice from one of our board members about two weeks ago in a trade.
A nice sized plate about 3 inches in diameter.
Purple and blue with pink eyes.

It had been stung/burned by a frogspawn just prior to me getting it.
That area initially was just browning/tan.
It has since turned a little reddish in color and even a few little bubbles developed at one point but have since disappeared.
Not sure if it has gotten any larger.

My question is:

Should I pull the chalice out and use a Dremel took to cut away the stung/burnt parts? Or just let it go?

Second question:

I initially had four strips of T5s. 2 Artinic and 2 bright white.
I had the Chalice about 8 -10 inches from the surface.
Seemed to do fine. Nothing bad.

I have since added two 400W Metal Halides.
I have only been putting them on for 4 hours at a shot from 10am-2pm.

I did not move the chalice. Seemed to be doing great.

THEN....Just today I put the lights on for 6 hours for the first time.
Came home and saw a huge amount of brown diatoms on the sand floor, and the chalice had actually whitened about 1 mm along the one edge.

I know with my Green Digitata they say white tips signify growth, what about Chalice?

Reel back the MHs to 4 hours?

Recommendations?

The front area is the burn area. Just to the right is the area with slighter white edging.
The appearance of brown film is just the photo.

Most chalices don't like a lot of light. Really should be on the floor, with indirect lighting. Let it heal. Then try moving it up slowly.

As for cutting it, its a gamble. if it appears to be receding from the edges you may want to verify your tank parameters. I lost thousands in chalices due to a faulty doser, and bad Hanna regens. Old trick i was told, was to use super glue in the edges of exposed skeleton. Would stop the receding and the tissue would grow back over the smooth surface of the glue. Helped me a few times. Good luck

Thank you both. Will be lowering it today. I will blow off the red slime off the dead coral section and monitor it. If it doesn't improve I will cut out the dead section.
