Chalices - Receeding - Why? They have been doing so well for so Long

that Fish Guy

Frag Swap Crusader!
I have a big Chalice Obsession.

I have 16 Chalices.

Most have been in my Aquarium for 6 Months or Longer and have been doing Great and Growing too.

It started with one of my Miami Hurricane Frags that started to receed after Growing too.

I did not really care because I had two larger pieces of that same Coral but one of those is half receeded now (Skin Pulling Back and White Skeleton Showing).

I just noticed today that the third one is started to show some Skeleton too.

I also noticed 4 Total today receeding.

Why is this going on?

All my other Corals are doing great.

All my Parameters are Spot on too.

So now most of my Chalices are receeding.

The only ones that are not are two Mummy Eyes and my Bubble Gum Monster.

And if I loose those I will be so upset.

What can I do?

Why is this happening?

Any recent change in lighting?

In my experience, it takes a while for a coral to decide if it likes where it's at. They can hang on for quite a while, looking "healthy", before suddenly giving up. And when they give up, it can go downhill fast. Just my observation which may or may not apply to your situation.

I use T5 and changed the Bulbs Three Months Ago so there was no Recent Change to Lighting.

Someone told me to Super Glue the Skeleton that Receeded and the Edge of the Tissue.

Something about Bacteria that Targets Chalices?

They said that they have Great Success doing this with Receeding Chalices and that the Chalices will just Grow over the Glue.

But I have never heard of this before so I am a Bit Skeptical.

I have not heard of the Glue Method.
I have not heard of Bacteria Targeting Chalices.
I have not heard of any Pest ever going after Chalices like Nudi's, Spiders, etc.

Has anybody else tried this Method or at Least Heard of it or any of the Things that he mentioned?

Here are my Water Parameters

Temperature - 78.5
Salinity - 1.026
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
Calcium - 440
Magnesium - 1500
Alkalinity - 7.7
Phosphate - 0.95

Also,

Here is the Thing a lot of my Corals (SPS, Chalices, Acans) were Fading.

I was told it was because I use GFO.

I stopped using GFO and they Very Next Day some of my Corals started to Color Up.

While using GFO my Phosphate was 0.06

Less than a Week Ago I stopped the GFO.

I then tested the Phosphate.

I went from 0.06 to 0.95 in less than a Week Once I stopped GFO.

If I start GFO again my Corals will Fade again.

So I am Damned if I do and Damned if I don't.

I am Lost.

What should I do?

Stop the gfo, it's hurting more than helping. Try to combat phosphate at the sources and go from there. Water changes, feed/feeding schedule, what type of water are you using, do you have any natural export going on through macro algaes? Chasing phosphate numbers will drive you mad. What's algae growth like in tank now that you took gfo offline.

I used to do Huge Water Changes (70 Percent a Week) and still had Phosphate over 1 PPM.

It was not until I started GFO that I got it Down.

I didn't have to "Chase" Phosphate when I was using GFO as it was always very Low.

But since stopping GFO it has gone up to 0.95 from 0.06!

I do not see any extra algae so that is good.

I use RO Water.

I do not have any Macro Algae as I have no Sump.
