beautiful corals, everyone!

How much light to these corals need? I picked up my first frag of a frag of a brick-colored chalice (it's supposed to be brick red, but in reality it's pale pink). I have it on the sandbed at the bottom of my 24" tank, under 175 watt 15K Iwasaki.

It should be fine, but you may want to move it up higher to get more intense color. They need some degree of ligh intensity to look their best. A 175w MH lamp should be more than adequate at those depths with a high quality reflector like a Lumenarc.

Picked this one up three hours ago

Still need to color up a bit and acclimate, but not too bad.

Quick question....how do these beautiful chalices do in 'high' flow tanks? I have a BB sps only tank and wouldn't mind putting a few of these along the bottom.

They do fine, at least for me. I keep them out of the high flow areas and out of direct high light, more along the bottom 1/3 of the tank. Realistically though I think they really prefer lower flow than the SPS and a little dirtier water IMHO. I am planning an LPS dominated cube tank where I am going to run lower flow and have a sand bed and move out most of my LPS collection. I am still going to run 250w MH with a luminarc mini but I plan on keeping a few caps to allow for some really low light areas in the tank for those LPS that can't take higher light. I always start low with all of my chalices and slowly move up to see how they color up. I have one chalice that gets a more orange body with hot pink eyes lower and a more pink body with less pink eyes right up high under the lights. It does great in either spot, just preference for what you like in color.

I really need to stop... and I really need a new camera. My white balance is off. This piece is light blue/tealish with pink eyes.

You call it what you want...to the gurus its not. If one of the marketing gurus was trying to sell it for more than they should they would call it some sort of "alien eye" more likely. Hope this helps, I say call it what you want. What LFS BTW? Does winston have some good ones? I dont think I have ever seen a chalice at an LFS here in Raleigh.

I go it from Aquarium Center in Kernersville, NC. They can get whatever you want but you may pay a little more for it. That so called "watermelon" chalice cost me $100 clams.

They have a couple of so called "bubble gum" and "hot lava red" chalices right now as well. If I were as close to Reefscience as you were that is were I would do my shopin.

ReefMonger, Where did you get that green with orange eyed chalice in the second picture? I have a very similar one I picked up from Ron Johncola, very sweet piece :).

That watermelon like chalice is very nice. It reminds me a lot of Jaydas watermelon on Reeffarmers site.

Here are some pics of Mine (just got a New Camera so hopefully they look OK)

I think it is very cool!:)

That piece is a very over exaggerated picture of the color. The colors are not anywhere like that.
