Randy,

I was guessing because the 3 color morphs above kinda originated from you at one point. Everyone seems to get 'a set' of them from you...including me :D

These corals are wonderful.
Any care guidelines and tips you have please share.
Lighting, flow etc.

Thanks,
Sean

Which ones do you have or are inquiring about Sean? Echinopora, Echinophyllia, Oxypora, or Mycedium? They have different requirments. Some like a lot of light, some like shade. Some like more flow than others. But for the most part, these corals can be kept in any condition. Even very low light. They just lose some of their color.

Here's a 2 year old article on Echinophyllia.

Hey Randy.
I am inquiring about Echinopora.
I received some nice frags in a trade recently.
Thanks,
Sean

I keep the echinoporas I have in lower light. Shaded actually. But I have lot's of light in my tanks. I have the blue echinopora, and in brighter light, it turns cream color, instead of powder blue. I have a purple echinopora that can handle more light, but I keep it in the shade, next to the blue. I have a green eye echinopora that I tried in a brighter area. It's color also turned cream/brown, but the mouths still stayed green. I have since moved it down with the other 2 echinoporas. It has not grown as fast, like the others. All three of those Echinoporas are E. lamellosa, most likely. I have a 4th Echinopora, which I believe is E. mammiformis. I keep this one in a brighter zone, with a little more flow than the lamellosas.
The lemellosas also produce long sweeper tentacles, so be careful what you put downstream to them.

the three enchinophyllia and one enchinopora i have are on the bottom and i only have 420w vho/pc and are doing fine. not a ton of growth out of the pink enchinophyllia but thats to be expected from what i've heard.

wow john, you have some really nice pieces.

i really like the pink w/ blue edge, bright red, light blue w/ pink mouths, green w/ pink mouths, & pink/light blue.

randy, your collections still inspires me. yours pieces are so big, and after being frag a ton of times. some day i hope my lil frags from your "chalices" grow into big colonies. with the way i frag, that's not very likely... HAHA. remember i just got a bigger tank, so there's hope yet. i know you have a bunch more... those pics are sooo old. time to bust out the camera and update us. i wonder what they look like under your new lighting. i wanna see how the pieces i sent you are doing too.

steve, your pieces aren't fair. you shouldn't be allowed to keep Echinopora that nice. LOL. it's about time you start sharing... :p i like the orange echino too. great find.

va_reefman I have to give you props on your collection :D You have a purple with green eyes, is that tub's limited edition alien eye???

Thanks Marlo...I know I promised you pics a while back but didn't have time to post.

Jendub, That one came from a trade. I didn't get anything from Tub. There are few pieces in the pics that really not color up yet. They will be once they grow out a bit.

John

I just got a frag of this from tubs. He calls it "alien eye". It's my first chalice type coral, and I must say, I really like it!

This is his pic, as I can't seem to get a shot that does it justice. My frag is about 1 1/2", placed about 3 inches from the bottom in my tank.

SPStoner that's the one I am talking about. I have one of those coming to me. How is yours looking???

JenDub- DOH! I didn't even see where you had asked about that:) It's doing great so far. It's only been a few weeks, but it seems to be already growing a little. I did have to epoxy it to the rock as it kept falling from it's "perch" at night, but other than that, no issues.

booo!

i better see a pic... next to your picture ID to prove it's yours. LOL!

here's my frag BTW...
alien.jpg

it looks a lot diff from Tubs' but it's supposed have come from that colony. it's actually pink w/ light blue edge & yellow mouths... looks like the underside if yellow too... pretty crazy. either way, i'm excited to get it. don't forget to provide photographic evidence to prove you get yours before me. LOL! :p
