"challice" pics...lets see em!

That's what I was hoping for, but that light blue shine has increase in the last week and I'm thinking after it finishes coloring up, I may not be able to see the purple undertones anymore. The second chalice was like that. It was very very green, but has colored up to a greenish light blue.

I really like the watermelon morphs! I have a pretty good collection going, but most are very small frags of just an eye or three.

Oh! I have LE bubblegum monster growth pictures! For whatever reason, my new 220G mixed reef display tank is growing the CRAP out of chalices. I can't remember when I got my piece of the chalice, but it was when the colony was first cut......Jose got a big piece, tyree got a big piece, I got a big piece and Victor, Lou, and Ryan kept the mother in the 180G at the store. I think one of the mini colonies died in shipping to California and had to be replaced. The coral came in looking brown and crappy at a LFS in Florida and this guy grew it from just a wee frag into a monster colony over the course of 2 or three years, then decided to get out of the hobby. Victor wound up buying the stuff and the rest as they say....is history.

Anyhow, when it came out as a tyree LE, I got excited and fragged my colony.....I think all but two frags died and I screwed up 1/3 of what I had....lesson learned! And just so people realize.....Victor had to give this guy a BIG chunk of money to get the chalice since there were many offers on it.....so it cost a pretty penny before it was ever a limited edition.

anyhow....I snapped 3 pictures since I fragged it. One just healed, and then the growth over what can't be more than just a couple months

and here is a wee pumpkin patch frag aka miami hurricanes chalice....under the same lighting as the BGM by the way. it's more of a steel grey/green

JUICEY - did you get the pumpkin patch from WWC? Looks good! Good to see they has already got some growth out of it.

Yes! When Victor first came back from California I talked him out of a single eye frag.....and I mean single eye....there was only orange!

anyway, his piece has grown and my wee frag has two eyes and a patch of green now and I think I got it after the BGM, so it is growing good for me also!

I has some chalices in my other tank, but they grow soooo slow! I think this tank is growing much faster because I can feed it so much without having to worry about water quality. This Bare Bottom tank is so nice! I KNOW I'm over feeding the tank, but I cut the sump off before I go to sleep and put in a ton of rotifers and assorted frozen foods, then when I wake up, I cut the sump and skimmer back on, then change out the filter socks when I come home for lunch. I'm turning the tank over about once a second, so everything stays in suspension....then when I cut the sump on, it injects the entire tank with bubbles for one minute and the remaining uneaten food...which doesn't appear to be much, comes out in the three filter socks.

I never even saw any kind of spike when I set up this tank aside from a small nitrate spike.....I hope the reef gods don't punish me later.

Ian....your pieces are looking good! Did you get the Alien eye from WWC? If so it will color up a ton!

good to see it has made it's way to the east coast. You will be really happy once it grow out. My best friend just moved to Orlando so I can't wait to come out for a visit to be able to see WWC's store for myself. :D

let me see.....I also have the hybrid watermelon chalice from eye catching coral....but I screwed it up trying to frag it.

Long story short.....I have kept SPS tanks for a very long time now and have just recently turned to the dark side. I've been accustomed to trading frags with other reefers and figured on doing the same thing to get up my chalice collection....unfortunately it's not as simple as snapping off an eye. Me being so sure of myself in my reef keeping abilities, I went right at it with expensive chalices instead of trying it out on something cheap. Now I have suceeded in turning my almost colonies back into frags....the skeletons splintered, I tried to cut frags too small or not with the right tools.

So here is my "colony" of the hybrid......it is almost big enough to start getting the red again! Now instead of banking a frag in my little tank, and having a couple pieces to trade or at least a decent size piece in my display I have this guy, and a piece twice as big....and one little speck that I hope will grow into a frag someday:

here is my tyree watermelon also which I halved to bank in my other tank. This coral is very camera shy! Out of the 100 pictures I tried to take...this is the best of the bunch!

tyree_PinkWatermelon.jpg

the other frag is an aussie chalice that will develop bright yellow eyes. It didn't have any eyes when I got it (I traded Victor a nice acan frag for it) but is starting to develop one on each end.

the old tyree blue and pink and blue chalice (my first a year or so ago)

RedWatermelon.jpg

a red watermelon morph that is much darker red than the tyree red watermelon(I don't have pictures of the tyree yet)...and the aptasia that laughs at kalk!

Oh, I lied earlier...I think this was my first chalice:
teal_w_yellow.jpg

teal with yellow eyes and stingers that come out 6" long!

anyway, that is the right side of my 4 month old 220G and will be my chalice garden which has replaced the monti cap garden......I think my LPS obsession has past my SPS obsession!

They've built one of the cleanest stores that I have been to, and I've seen some in many parts of the country from traveling in the military.

It's definitely worth checking out if you are in the area! I know I'm glad to be able to score nice stuff without having to ship EVERYTHING! I imagine that you will start seeing more and more pictures of really nice corals coming from Orlando!

I've been friends with the owners since back when they had a 2,000G farm in the garage, so I may be a little partial.....

my chalice collection is very young....I'm so glad that they are growing well for me! The tyree pink watermelon was my first LE chalice, and it grew SO slow in my 125G SPS tank. It is growing much faster now, but it still one of the slowest growers. The blue one grows like a weed.....The only reason it is so small is because I cut it way back so it didn't dwarf the others so much! I know I'll have to thin some out eventually, but for now I have plenty of extra room.

Thanks Juice. They were both from WWC :D

Oh, so that is the same red watermelon morph as the picture I posted! I got a piece of the tyree red watermelon from fish and it is lighter red side by side.....though it did take a beating in shipping so it's probably too early to say for sure. WWC has a piece of the LE red watermelon in the 180G, but it is a wee frag still.

I like the favia in your avatar ;-) you are a far better photographer than I!

Oh heck....buy that time the tank should be filled in quite nicely! Right now it's something like a giant frag tank....well, I have a few nice sized colonies, but the tank has mostly been "seeded" with small colonies and frags. I wish I could fast forward 6 or 8 months!
