+2...can you take a top down pic of that dual colored chalice and tell us about how it came to be that way. Pretty cool. It reminds me a bit of the TOTM this month...the multi colored cap all grown up.
reeferpnoy, nice pic of the Aquascene Golden Eye...I hardly ever see that one posted. I have had it for a long time...it got stung by an acan echinata last year and went from a 4" diameter colony to a frag about the size of yours in a few hours :(. OUCH, that one hurt. I nursed it back to health and it is happy once again and growing well.

Kev, I don't know about the drama...I try to just stay out of stuff the best I can and enjoy what I like for the sake of what I like. When I see a chalice, or any coral for that matter, that I want because it strikes me, I try and track it down or buy/trade for a frag. That's it...everyone has their own desire, likes, etc. People will always try and capitalize on the latest and greatest...in every market. If I like it I pay...no bartering, no drama. End of story. I just let the folks who want to complain go ahead and complain and not worry about it. I have paid high prices for many of my corals with no questions asked, that is my choice. Other folks barter and try to get deals, that is their choice. Whatever you decide to do with a coral is your choice, end of story. I figure if the price is to high for somethign I move on, no need to hate on someone. Good old capitalism, as remarked earlier. I have always enjoyed your threads, posts, and friendship over the net. Take a step back if you need...then get back on this thread ASAP :D.

I have to keep this all in mind when I take my car into the mechanic...just because of the make and model of my car I pay way more than I do for our other piece of crap car that gets great gas mileage...just the way it goes. You pay for the name and quality sometimes.

Thanks Alicia yes its one nice thing and finally coloring up...Post yours as well...

As far as pricing yes I agree on some counts. I will pay for something that I know its proven and will hold colors and know the history.. I think the problem recently is the new stuff that is comin in that people are trying to sell as the same price as some that are proven in this hobby. I am not in anyway attacking anyone its just my opinion and I respect everyone's opinion ont his matter whether I agree or not...

reeferpnoy,
Agreed, I feel like I know what is more common and seeing it in different places under different names is my first clue, lol. I think paying for the proven, lineaged piece is my favorite thing to do...but once in a while I get bitten by the beauty of something and I am willing to pay even if it is more common.

I will try and get a picture of my AquaScene once I get my new bulbs all set up. I always plan on pictures when I have a small project on the tank...I set aside a half hour for pictures after I get the bulbs put in. Time has been tight for a while for me so less time for pictures of the tank :(.

I bet you don't pay just trade :D...You have an awesome collection that people crave for and that is one advantage of it.. My friend learn a hard way .. I will not mentioned his name but I told him to wait but didn't listen he wants to be one of the guys saying " I have a piece" then a few weeks later we saw a piece bigger and half price for sale on some other site with different name on it ...

Anyway I have been just enjoying taking pics of my corals here and there . I am a bit photofreak lately :)..

Lets stay on the thread topic " Chalice show off" thread.. I think I have a few more that haven't posted :D..

 It's funny how the same people keep inciting the drama then when it gets bad, they step back and try to discourage off topic discussions.

You know what's even funnier and ironic? People complaining about these recent chalice craze are the EXACT same people that ONLY posts in the Eye candy threads...you know? They keep preaching about how they care about the hobby more... but I've never even seen them participate in an ID thread, or a newbie thread asking for help w/ new LPS...kinda seem hypocritical if you ask me. Always the same people that's been posting nothing but show off pics but all of a sudden...it's getting out of hands according to them, lol. It's the same old group of people that generated this hype through posting pics on threads, same old cliques that was part of the high$$/polyp trend, same old people that encouraged the behavior when it was their wallet being fed...but all of a sudden, they are saints who's out to enjoy the hobby...every once in awhile dropping "wise" comments criticizing the new comers...makes you wonder if they are complaining because they are out of the loop, not used to paying full prices? seeing new competition for their sales? or if they really mean what they say...Just sayin' :D

If they really do mean what they say, then I don't see why we can't all enjoy eye candy without all the drama? Passive aggressive BS is cute and all but it gets to a point where it's just...nauseating. Dare I say, lame even? If anyone has a problem with anyone, let's try to keep it to PM from now on...and try to keep this thread strictly on topic - more eye candy!!

kev,
I went threw the same thing when i posted on my local thread about being careful when buying montis due to the fact a LFS had some in their tanks and was continuing to sell their montis even after i said something.... i was beat to death with people saying it was me that gave them to him cuz i was bringing in all sorts of new corals.... i almost left, but thn found out that i was respected by people i care about in my home town, and realized most of it is jealousy due to the fact i had ALOT of nice hard to find pieces....

All i have to say is the main people in this thread enjoy you being here, so if must be take a break, but remember... you are welcome here by the people that matter, so dont stay gone long.......

now to get off my soap box....

on wwith the pics...

Darth Maul? :D

Yep, this was one of the first pieces that I said, "I must have". This was way before it was marketed on other sites. It is one of those pieces that get overlooked, but it is absolutely stunning.

Got a little more info on the dual colored chalice. Word is that it came out of the wild like that, and that it is actually 2 different chalices that grew together peacefully for whatever reason. Makes me wonder...

Kev,
Hang in there, we want you active with the rest of us. These discussions are cyclical and come around when the corals get popular or the desire is great. I quit participating in those philosophical arguments a long time ago.

Here is some more "EYE" Candy:
